Trying to get locals here in Meridian, MS. Guide loads 30.1 which is local FOX. The same network broadcasts NBC on analog 30 but the guide doesn't load that and I believe digital NBC is 30.2 (although TitanTV is currently listing two 30.1 stations??).

Ft Myers Fl 33919 30.1, 30.2, 30.3 WEDU PBS
30.2 won't help you at all you need the channel that the broadcast is actually on.

If I'm not mistaken, what he's trying to do will work, the guide data will just be incorrect though.

I don't understand it either. WGBC broadcasts as NBC analog ch 30, FOX digital on 30.1, and NBC digital on 30.2. I do not know if these are real or virtual, I figure I'll give a 30.2 such as Ft Myers a try. Thanks!
Edit.. Just called the station. They say its all in a state of flux right now. Because analog is Ch 30, the digital broadcast is on a REAL channel of 31, which has been encoded as a virtual channel of 30.1, 30.2, etc. I know this is covered elsewhere but it is just now starting to make sense to me. So now the question is, do I need a secondary zip with a real channel 31, or a secondary zip with virtual channel 30.2? Both seem almost impossible, but seems unnecessary since allegedly this virtual data is somehow encoded in the digital broadcast...

The latest:
The Ft Myers zipcode worked! NBC coming in loud and clear in full HD! But it just so happens that they also have a REAL channel of 31 with virtuals of 30.1, 30.2, etc. so can't draw a conclusion on which one (or both) matters.
But the affiliate is PBS in Ft Myers, anyone have a 30.2 NBC that would get me semi correct guide data for the DVR?? And if its 30.2 with a different real channel I could test that theory.
Either way, thanks. Go DBStalk...!

WLMT in Memphis and KDNL in St. Louis are other options, since both are analog 30 and digital 31. Both are ABC affiliates.

I posted this in your other thread in the "Directv Installation Forum" also.
According to my research
Your NBC is broadcasting over real Channel 31.2 and will show up as 30.2 in your guide. This is according to http://rabbitears.info. This info does not agree with http://tvfool.com. Let's assume rabbitears is correct. Any of the following zip codes should provide you with a channel in your list that is physically broadcasting over 31.2. 30.2 should then show up in your guide in your list of channels although it may appear out of order. Go to edit channels and "remove" all of the extra channels that appear from whatever secondary zip code you use but of course don't delete 30.2. The guide info for 30.2 will not be correct for your NBC of course but you should at least be able to watch it through your receiver. I couldn't find another NBC affiliate broadcasting on 31.2 but found several others. The zip codes are as follows 93940, 33900, 33102, 30901, 40802, 50301, 70112, 45201, 97401, 37901, 38101, 78550, 74101. It doesn't seem to matter if the virtual or displayed channel matches your NBC - the broadcast channel, 31.2, just has to match. I think the virtual channel info, in your case 30.2, must be included in your broadcast stream. I don't know. Don't forget to remove your channels first, input your local zip code, and then when prompted for secondary try any of the zip codes listed above. If I could have found an NBC affiliate in your time zone broadcasting on 31.2 it would have worked better for your guide info but no such luck.
Eventually your channel info will get worked out by directv but in the meantime this is an interesting workaround.
The naming convention for the broadcast stream 31.2 is what is used on Rabbitears website. The .2 refers to Program # 2 being sent over UHF ch 31 and is not the same as the .2 in the virtual or "displayed" channel 30.2. In a few instances a program number may not match the subchannel on the displayed channel but most of the time you can assume that it does. Go to rabbitears.info and look at channel WVIR in Charlottesville, NC. Go to listings and search for WVIR. The info for WVIR shows that digital channels 32.3, 32.4, and 32.5 correspond to displayed channels 29.1, 29.2, and 29.3 which is a bit unusual.

I'm in the same shape. It is beyond frustrating. I suspect that the new channel information for 30.2 has not been submitted to the database that the receiver connects to for the channel information. Look at zap2it channel listing for our zipcode 39301. 30.2 is not there. I think it's something the station has to do. I'm spoken by phone and email to the station manager. They didn't really even understand the problem. They just blamed directv or signal strength?? Please continue to contact the station.

Yes;
But this whole thing is really darn confusing to be honest. Not only does the PSIP data differ this way between the logical "display channels" and the actual "digital channels" for no apparent reason. But in some cases, particularly for off-air channel scans, the "display channels" don't even line up sequentially, whereas the "digital" ones always appear to (though I obviously haven't checked them all for such consistency). For instance here in the Los Angeles DMA KNBC-DT (the local NBC O&O station) display channels are listed logically as "4-1," "4-2," and "4-4." Yet it's digital channels according to RabbitEars are logical "36.3," "36.4," and "36.5."
A smaller UHF independent station here "KJLA-DT" (solely digital now) are displayed logically as "57-1," "57-2," "57-4," "57-5," and "57-8" (from an off-air channel scan, not the AM21 which list them as sequential). However, even though the data from RabbitEars is incomplete for this station, it nevertheless appears to indicate a sequential listing for the digital channels as well. Probably as "49.3," "49.4," "49.5," "49.6," and "49.7."
Now add to this trying to make sense of the confusing work-around for AM21 where apparently if you can locate a secondary zip code for an out of market DMA which has a station which happens to broadcast digitally on same logical RF channel (irrespective of its actual display channel) it will correctly map on to the proper display channel in the guide listings of the primary zip code's DMA, albeit with incorrect guide info. in most cases.
Go figure...
Whew... what a headache for me. Someone want to pass the Excedrin? :)

You say that your NBC programming on sub-channel 30.2 is in full HD? Is the main Fox programming on 30.1 in HD as well? Or are two HD channels stat-multiplexed onto UHF channel 31?

Whoa, easy on the techno-garbel, I don't speak it. Ha, jk. Here's an update...
As I previously posted the Ft Myers works for the 30.2 NBC channel. The only problem is the guide data is wrong so no Guide or DVR.
Here's the latest twist, its a doozie....
The guide data for the KGBC 30.2 has been corrected. So now, with my zipcode all the channels show up correctly. Yay!
BUT, the newly added 30.2 with correct guide data has 0% signal strength. The 30.1 channel shows 100% on both tuners, as does the Ft Myers 30.2 channel. I went into the guide and tried deselecting the duplicate Ft Myers 30.2 and still no signal on my local channel.
How is it that I receive 30.1 at 100% but 30.2 at 0%? And how is it that I show two different 30.2's, the false one at 100% and the legit one at 0%?

It's a guide data error for the sub channel.. best bet it to call local station and notify them so they can request it to be updated..

I would have guessed the error in the guide is in the actual channel, not the subchannel. The subchannel shows up correctly as 30.2, maybe its not looking at the broadcast channel of 31? I'm the FNG tho so what do I know..??
DirecTV will probably get the call, the network already heard from me and has made the request before, that's how I got the guide changed in the first place.
