Hi guys,

Okay, this time is KNOW there is a setting that has been changed somewhere that screwed me up. I'm sure it's related to the "dial-up problem" I had a while back.

I don't print all that much, but I noticed about the same time as the previous issue that my XP system refuses to send print jobs to the printer.

Tech info:
I have XP Home hooked up via Parallel port to Cannon BJC610.

The unit is hooked up through port LPT1 and it's working.

The printer is talking to the computer and the computer sees the printer.

The drivers have been removed and reinstalled.

Messages:
When the print manager is set to "Use Printer offline" the job status is in limbo. The printer icon apears on the bottom of the screen and nothing happens.

When I uncheck the "Use Printer offline" an error appears on the print manager "The Document Failed To Print" and the print status goes to "Offline - Printing".

The printer shows it is on line on the front panel and is ready to work. It will print an internal test page, but an XP test page will not make it to the printer. When you tell the computer to see if it can see a printer, it correctly identifies that it has a printer and the brand...the printer is pre-plug'n'play.

ANY IDEAS? I've checked a ton of settings, but admittedly I am not as familiar with the intricacies of the XP system as I was with Win 98.

Thanks in advance!

See ya
Tony

The fastest way I have tried to fix printer problems is to delete the printer completely and reboot. Then it should find the printer and reinstall it.

Did it. :) No go. I tried deleting the Port AND the printer and reinstalling both. Same problem

Thanks

Hmmm.... you may want to double-check your settings for the LPT1 port in the BIOS. There is a setting that allows for bidirectional communication between the printer and the computer and what type is involved. Unfortunately, I don't have my manual nearby, and the exact wording escapes me at the moment.

There is an extra step in uninstalling a printer in both Windows 2000 and XP that MUST be completed in order for the O/S to see the new drivers. If omitted, the O/S will just use the old, possibly corrupted, drivers.

Disconnect the printer. Uninstall any software from the Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel. Go into the Printers & Faxes section in the Control Panel and right click the printer and select Uninstall.

From the Toolbar, select File, then Server Properties. In the Drivers tab, highlight the printer drivers and select Uninstall.

Now reboot the PC.

Because it's such an old printer (sorry!) the latest drivers are on the XP CD... use the Add Printer Wizard to install.

Any change in behavior?
