Despite stiff competition from EchoStar's DISH Network and its local TV slate, Pegasus is beginning to see results from DirecTV's continued roll-out of local TV channels in the rural markets it serves.

Pegasus, through its affiliates with the National Rural Telecommunications Cooperative, sells DirecTV in rural areas. According to executives with the company, 60 percent of Pegasus subscribers have access to local TV via satellite, through 66 markets where Pegasus has service territories.

About 90 percent of new Pegasus subscriber additions take local TV via satellite when available in their area, executives said.

The local TV numbers accompanied first quarter results for the company released Wednesday. For the three-month period, consolidated net revenues decreased to $213.1 million. The consolidated loss from operations was $5.7 million.

Pegasus said it was serving 1.275 million subscribers as of March 31, representing a net decrease of 32,642 from the number of subscribers reported at year-end 2002.
