View Full Version : Integration of local HD on 921?

Here's a question that may not yet have an answer, but here goes.

I'm hoping the 921 will have 1) an ATSC tuner for my local HD channels, 2) the ability to park local HD content on the HDD, and 3) info in the 9(?)-day Guide about local channels. In short, I'd like to use the 921 for local reception as though the local channels are simply extras in the list of available channels.

Anybody wanna guess whether this behavior might show up in the 921?

1 & 2 Yes, 3, I doubt it. Very few stations are actually sending the program data in the PSIP stream, so the guide is pretty useless unless Dish decides to integrate the Locals data, which should be easy to do, I would think.

Steven,

In short, I'd like to use the 921 for local reception as though the local channels are simply extras in the list of available channels.I agree with you completely. If they can, Dish should mirror the programming information from the networks on satellite for the over-the-air channels (by allowing you to set network or channel affiliation in locals setup). My cable HDTV set-top box mirrors all the standard programming information for the HDTV local channels, and the 921 should too; that way, viewing, scheduling, and recording will be much, much more intuitive.

Improved locals integration is a necessity to better compete with cable. For the end-user, OTA digital broadcasts on a satellite receiver should be just as usable and accessible as they are on cable (barring any reception limitations).

If you have any other feature requests for the 921 receiver, please also note them in this thread (http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=14967).
