I have a question about the locals. I live in an area where I get the distant networks of NY / LA. I noticed that my local market will be available in Q3 of this year.

My question is two-fold: What if I don't want these locals, and want to keep NY and LA stations. I already get my locals through Basic Cable service and I like this setup. I imagine some of you have had this happen. Do they just all of a sudden strip you of your Distants and move you to your local market. Or is this on an as requested basis?

My second question is: I already have the HD CBS channel. Does this get removed assuming I get converted to my locals? I am sure some of you dealt with this. I am just curious as to what is going to happen to me come this summer.

Thanks for your input.

Qualification for distants and locals are completely idndependent of one another. So, at least in theory, you could have both. I say "in theory" because thsi amy cause them to re-evaluate whether you should have had distants.

You can buy locals ffrom DISH if they are offerd and you live in that DMA. You can buy distant nets if you live in what is called a "white area" wher Over The AIR (OTA) reception.

So if you live inside the Rogerville DMA but for whatever reason cant receive the OTA signals you can buy distant nets. If DISH adds Rogerville then you can watch your locals and distant nets.

Meanwhile the poor people in the Nick City DMA (which is a DMA not offered by DISH) but who supposedly do receive a signal cannot get ANY locals from DISH.

I live in JamesFtown. We are in the STXJim DMA. DISH added that market early and I can receive a passable OTA signal. So I get to order the locals but not distant nets.

Does that help?

This link should be able to tell you what DMA you live in. Find your county and you should be able to tell if your local channels are Wichita or Lincoln.

The zip given (Stuttgard) is in Rice County and that is squarely in the Witchita KS DMA.
