Looks like the production got a big of a bump. Not only did the opening music get a mix, but they appear to be using the professional version Google Earth to generate the maps.
Also, this episode re-airs on the Travel Channel at 8 PM and Midnight on the Travel Channel on Friday, February 20th. Hey, I've always said this reality show belongs on the Travel Channel.

Can't remember if I had this scheduled.
I don't see it on the travel channel (via Directv.com). Is that 8pm and 12pm Pacific (which would be 2am central)? #277 shows something else then.

Cool, thanks.
I'll have to check when I get back home.
This is the first episode of "The Amazing Race" that i have ever watched. I am going to watch the whole season, i am already hooked. All the sights that these people get to see are absolutely amazing.

I'm calling it now, the mom and deaf son are going to win it all.

Well i've heard some people complaining that some of the challenges have been too easy over the past few seasons, well I guess that cheese challenge was meant for those who have been complaining, wow that looked rough! We should be happy that we got rid of the "annoying negative bickering couple" (there seems to be at least one in every season) at the first episode. For more on them, check out the first ep of the Elimination Station here:

Last season was the first season I saw and I was hooked from the get-go. Maybe becuase one difference is that I now have a passport after 20 years of trying (screwed up birth records). Now I look at these places and think that, someday, I *can* go there.
I wish some channel would put reruns of the previous seasons on. I wouldn't mind watching the first 12.

GSN acquired the off-network syndication rights to the show's first eight seasons in June 2005, while Fox Reality Channel currently holds the rights to its ninth through eleventh installments.
The Travel Channel will air The Amazing Race twelfth-season episodes in the Wednesdays at 8PM ET/PT timeslot beginning September 3.

One of the cool things about this past ep is that i've actually been to Interlaken, Switzerland, sure it was about 20 years ago but I was there! :)

At the beginning of the episode it said presented in HD, but what I watched last night definitely was NOT in HD. Did anyone see this in HD?

I did hear the presented in HD part too but I am not sure what they were talking about. Amazing Race is not in HD and as far as I know they have no plans to do it any time soon.

They were impressive I have to say.
What suprises me is some of the "thin in shape" couples on the show are very unfit as if they never do real exercise. Yes, that hill was tough, but I drag my butt over hills like that every fall carrying all my hunting gear. Hill jack sure had no trouble with it.
I had to feel sorry for the wife from the Virginia couple. She's not in shape for this - that's bad enough - but to have her husband ragging on her was just inexcusable. What was he thinking - what kind of good could come form such a dressing down?
And the previews for next week don't look promising for her.

After watching this episode, I don't know what I should be afraid of.... a tire rolling down the hill, or a big huge round of cheese. What were those carriers held together with... paper staples?
I also liked the fact that Phil signed that the mom and kid were team number 1.

From what we've seen so far, it's shaping up to be a good season. :D

I didn't understand the point of carrying them down when it appeared you can just let them roll down and pick them up after you got down there. Why didn't all the teams just roll 4 pieces down and fetch them all?
The "equipment" was a joke. Only one couple actually completed it the way I thought should have been done.

I imagine they were told they couldn't roll the cheese wheels. That's 50lbs of cheese per wheel rulling down that hill, could be dangerous. I don't think anyone wanted to get creamed by that and the ones that did get away went off in all directions, a few busting through fences.
But I still get a chuckle at the site of the cheeses getting away and the contestants trying to catch them.... :D

The cheese recovery was likely worse than bringing it down slowly .. that being said, dragging (or perhaps sliding) the cheese was probably the best plan all along :)

I just finished watching it today. It was a good episode. I loved the cheese shennanigans. Phil signing to the young guy. And like DJLOG said, it does not look promising for the West Virgina lady.

Noooooo........
She is from Virginia, not West Virginia.;)
We have enough hill jacks without her.:)

If this was the case then why did they all receive clues after retrieving cheese that had rolled down the hill on accident. The clue is the rule for the challenge and in no part of the clue did it say that they had to "carry" the cheese to the bottom. Just get 200 lbs from point "A" to point "B".
