View Full Version : Acquiring Satellite Signal

I have the DishNetwork 6000 with the 8vsb module. Lately, at random times, when I hit the guide buttton on the remote, I don't get the guide but a message the the receiver is "acquiring satellite signal."  In order to get the signal back, I have to reboot the receiver (without rebooting, the message remains on the screen until I reboot--I've waited for long periods).  After rebooting, it takes just a short time before the signal is back.  This didn't happen before I installed the 8vsb module last October.  It hasn't been happening since October, or at least, it didn't bother me enough to notice until fairly recently.  I said random, but it seems to happen more when I have recently scaned for digital channels (I only have distant signals-around 100 miles--available to me for OTA digital channels).  Any way to prevent this screen and get the guide instead.  Like I said, it doesn't happen all, or even most, of the time, but it is annoying to have to reboot the receiver once or twice a night.  Thanks.

I get this from time to time as well. I've learned to never go to guide when I am in the OTA area and that seems to keep it from happening. It is some kind of bug.

This happens if you are watching an OTA channel. Do not hit the Guide button if you have been tuned in OTA for more than a few minutes.

The 6000 loses a "key" while tuned OTA and after a certain amount of time, must refresh it. It apparently can't refresh it while tuned OTA so it must reacquire the signal.

The best thing to do is hit the Browse button and go up or down to a sat channel, hit Enter to tune it in, then hit the Guide button.

I've emailed Dish tech support on this numerous times and they don't seem to want to fix it. I think it's their way of keeping us connected to a dish.

Yeah, like Darell says, if you sit on a local channel too long the 6000 loses the ability to go right to the EPG for some reason.

My "work around" is to type the ch# I want on the keypad (I actually know the #s for my usual stations) or else the closest one I remember.

Once you're back to the sat feed you can pull up the EPG w/o a problem.

The new 111's and 311's that Dish is coming out with will have more memory and solve this issue. Also aint they supposed to be compressing the guide?

I thought it was some kind of bug, I'm glad I'm not the only one experiencing this.  Actually, I don't use the DishNetwork guide that much, the guide in my Replay is a quantum leap better than the archaic one the with the 6000.  I use the browse function much more.  Hopefully, the guide will be much better when the new receivers come out.

I am surprised that they made the OpenTv receivers have this function seeing that it takes a while for the picture to come up in what they call 'pip' in the guide.
