First off i am new to this site and happened to stumble across it while looking for installation advice from the google search.

I have been with Direct TV since 97' and have had them come out 3 times for adding basic recievers in different rooms. Every time the P.I. has come out they would drill from the outside into the room where the reciever was to be located. I had let them know that i would like for there to be no holes drilled coming in from the outside and if possible run lines in the attic. In order for them to do that they would say that it would cost $60 a drop. So now i have three tacky looking white and black colored coax showing on the outter area of the house.

I was eligable to upgrade to a DVR for $99 w/ 2yr agreement and figured why not! I already had a Tivo R10 that i wanted to hook up as well. So when i was speaking with the CSR i let her know that i was going to be hooking up the Tivo along with the new DVR they were going to be sending me. She said that it would be of no extra charge to have that done and they would send me a card for the Tivo as well. I set the appointment up and she said that the card for the Tivo will come when the P.I. brings the DTV DVR for the installation.

Well when the P.I. arrived he had no paper work showing both units being installed, nor did he have the card for the Tivo. He said that it would cost $60 for each drop and 5 drops would have to be done.

Drops: 2=master bed/DTV DVR R22-100
2=guest bed/Tivo R10
1=family rm/DTV D11

Total= $300

I know that i can save myself some money by D.I.Y. and i have done custom home wiring for home audio/video entertainment systems back in 2005 for 2 years.

The actual satalite dish has 2 wires coming from a single LNB.

I have a Tivo DVR R10, DTV DVR R22-100, DTV D11.

What is the best way to have all my coax ran in the attic and also be able to have all of my boxes connected properly.

Thanks, Gmoney18

Well not sure why the CSR implied that he would bring cards. Techs never carry cards; they get sent by fedex from the AC dept.

$60 is the right price for a wall fish. On multiple ones you can negotiate with a tech or as you proposed you can DIY. Small note; tech do prefer cash since anything else tends to disappear.

I would run dual coax to any room you plan to ever have D* service in. Run them to a central point in the attic and clearly mark them. This will save a lot of trouble later

Would i have to put in a multiswitch in the attic for dropping two lines in each room?

Since you have a dual output dish it would indeed need a switch. Normally D* would provide it once going over the amount of wires from the dish.

Yes.

Run the cables to the attic entrance, and locate the switch there, so that future maintenance can be done without having to go up into the attic itself.
