I just purchased a Toshiba 43 HD not the thearte wide but the 4:3 model it was a showroom model and I got a good buy on it. Right now I have the contrast at 70% is that to high what are anyones recommendations Also I have thought about putting a video card in my computer with a TV out on in is anyone doing this and if so how does it work and what are the dangers of burn in. I have Dish network also and I think I will wait for the 921 to come out before jumping on the HD bandwagon
As for the contrast setting, try to keep the contrast down around 60 for the first couple of weeks. This will help any "burn-in" issues. As long as you don't keep the channel locked on a station with a logo and you keep your contrast down, burn-in shouldn't be a problem.

I have the same TV as you do forklifter. Mine is maybe a year older then yours, but fwiw this is what I have my settings at for Dish Network:
Contrast: 50
Brightness: 45
Color: 50
Tint: +3
Sharpness: 15
Flesh Tone: Off
DNR: Off
Color Temp: Medium
As far as sending your pc signal to your tv set, I had problems getting that to work when I tried it once with an S-Video cable and an Nvidia Geforce 3 card (pretty sure it was the Geforce 3 card and not an older Voodoo 3 card at the time). I fooled around with different screen resolutions and what not for one afternoon before I gave up on it. Pretty sure I tinkered around with the refresh rates as well thinking that could have been a problem. You might have better luck then I did with it. Games from the X-Box and GameCube look great on this set as does DVD through component. The new Enter The Matrix videogame for X-Box is listed as being 1080i HD as well.

Progressive scan dvd looks really nice on this set. I moved my older dvd player to the bedroom after picking up a quality progressive scan dvd player. Nowadays, the price difference between the two (progressive vs. non-progressive scan players) isn't even an issue like it was when it first came out. Get a decent set of component cables and you will notice that text looks sharper in dvds - end titles and the like should appear crisper to the eye and you should see less flicker then before. GameCube and X-Box games programmed for 480P progressive also look really nice on it.

Get the AVIA or Sound & Vision Home Theatre Tuneup disks and setup your TV with one of these DVDs. They walk you through setting up the proper settings.
