:hi:

Hello- I am a satellite installer and I have a question for anyone who has run into this problem. I have a client who purchased 3 Samsung HDTV TS160 receivers. She has a RCA triple LNB dish. She is having problems with losing video, but not audio, on all three receivers about 2-3 times a month. She has to constantly reset them to get the video back. The receivers also completely lock up (cant change channels, turn on/off). I have replaced the LNB twice and it still does it. The only other thing I can think off is that all three receivers run through a surge protector (2 are the high end Monster Cable surge protector and 1 is a cheapo off brand) both cablewise and plugwise.  Could these protectors be doing something to limit the video?? Could the receivers be receiving a strange signal to cause them to lock up??

Do the three receivers lock up at the same time so that it is something affecting all three receivers? Is it something affecting all receivers at different times, I have heard problems with the TS-160 heating up if installed in cabinets.

I'd suggest that you consider replacing the surge protectors with a UPS system. I run my Mits 55875, Dish 6000, Dish 501 and a couple of other small 'things' off a APC ups that cost me $150 and it keeps all this going for 15 minutes. Last year my house got 'zapped' and wiped out a bunch of computer stuff that was on just a surge protector but everything on the UPS was OK.

I don't understand why folks will buy a UPS for their $1,500 computer system but leave stuff that's two to three times more expensive in just a surge protector or nothing at all. Just my two cents.

They don't all lock up at the same time. Sometimes 1 wil lbe fine and the other two will lock up or they will do it at different times. None of them really felt hot at my last visit. Its just weird. Thanks RAD for your suggestion. I will see what works.
