I've read through the archives and have gotten the answer that diplexers will work for carrying a DBS signal and cable modem data. When I had Dish, I diplexed Time Warner's signal with the satellite so that I could get YES. I have since switched to Directv. I've already got the diplexers (Eagle Aspens) left over so I thought I'd give it a shot. However I have a few questions that I haven't seen answered.

1) Will cable modem performance be impacted? I'm getting RoadRunner installed this weekend and am curious as to whether or not there will be any performance difference between a dedicated line and one that is diplexed.

2) Will there be any interference on the Satellite signal? As I understand it, cable TV travels on a different frequency than does internet access, so I'm wondering if this frequency is close enough to the satellite frequency to cause any lines/disruptions.

FYI, when I did diplex the signal about a year ago, I didn't experience any worsening of the signal nor any additional rain fade. I have the diplexers installed right now before the guy shows up and I have seen no effect on the D* singal (even and odd transponders come in strong). Thanks for your responses!

Yes, you should be able to do this. I have to diplex a satellite signal and internet signal and both worked just fine. As long as your cable is RG6, you should not have any trouble with performance on either. I prefer to use Asko diplexers, but your Eagle Aspens should be fine too.

Let us know when you get everything hooked up!

Mike-

It all worked out fine. The cable guy that came out here thought that the diplexers were magic - he had never heard of them. Got a great signal, and great speeds (2.4 Mbps), so I'm quite pleased. Picture and signal on the Directv system are still great. Now I just have to sort out these problems I'm having with my wireless router... any hardwired device works with it, but my wireless laptop connects, then drops after a few minutes even when it's next to it... on hold with Netgear right now so we'll see how that turns out. Thanks again!

Well, just got the wireless router working... I had to disable the 128-bit encryption for it to work with the laptops in the house, but it works fine now. This really does blow dialup away, in time I'll probably wonder how I got along without it.

Good deal, bills976. Just be real careful with your wireless router. People can hack in on those pretty easily, so Ive heard. I have DSL and never will go back to dial up!!!!!!!!!!
