Numerous web sources are reporting that Microsoft will release the next public build of Windows 7 on April 10th. My own sources say "we are on target for an April 2009 release".
The normal testing procedure would call for at least one more Beta and then the first of several "release candidates' or RC.
Windows 7 is short circuiting the whole process with one public beta and and what will probably be one and only one RC release. The purpose of the release candidate will be to look for the final "bugs" before sending it off to manufacturing. It also serves as a wake up call to manufacturers who may be "lacking" in their own preparations.
Microsoft has also announced that any PC purchased after July 1st will automatically be qualified for a free upgrade to Windows 7. This indicates that somewhere between July 1st and October 1st, Windows 7 will be in the PC's makers hands.
Dam fast train ride.
im looking forward to moving on with windows 7. no doubt ill be one of the first to rush out and buy it on release day. so far i love the beta version... been using it since it was available for download. i dual boot 7 and vista.. havent used vista in a while :-)

So do you know how this will work with the current Beta testers, Larry? Will we be allowed the opportunity to get the RC to test it as well?

Yes... The RC will be available more widely than the Beta... the idea is to flush out the last problems before the code goes "gold" and is released to manufacturing.

Will dreamscene be enabled in the RC release?

I regret(?) to report that Dreamscene is history... It was kind of neat to play with but most everyone turned it off... system resource hog.
Will dreamscene be enabled in the RC release?

Sorry if this has been discussed, but I just got Vista 64 on Jan 26 of this year and was wondering what kind of price-break, if any, I might get on a Win 7 upgrade???

MS sent out an email to W7 Beta testers last weekend offering a free copy of either Office or Vista to the first 500 people in line who reported an issue. I responded a few hours after receiving the email and lo and behold the offer was already closed. Don't know why I'd want a copy of the operating system the one I'm testing is about to replace, but hey, it's better than the bright shiny nothing I've gotten from them now.

That means at least 500 known issues, or does it? I'd actually be surprised if they gave out those 500 copies. Probably was pre-planned by Bill and Steve Ballmer to give them to charity - something where they'd get some kind of return on their "investment".
I learned some time ago to watch my wallet when I was being offered anything for free from MS. I do like most MS products and have been a Win user since before 3.0, but I won't be surprised if they make me buy Win 7:rolleyes:
According to another article I have read, they have had thousands of issues submitted so far. Somethign like a few hundred for every programmer on the Windows 7 team I think.

I didn't get that email. Not sure why, but then again, doesn't really matter as I have licensed copies of Office and Vista already.
I have read that there will be an upgrade path for current Windows OS users but I do not think any details have been confirmed by MS and it's anyone's guess as to what the upgrade cost will be. I guess we'll all have to stay tuned and see what MS says.
