View Full Version : Order of deletion - what is it exactly?

I tried sorting by expiration date and somethings recorded recently were interspersed with recordings I made months ago, and I'm only talking about high def recordings for which I did not set the Do Not Delete flag.
This made me curious as my disk fills up.
What recordings are deleted first? I assumed it was in reverse of date recorded, i.e. it deleted the oldest first, except, of course, for those with the Not Delete flag set.

So has ANYone figured out how the HR20 handles the deletion? Oldest first or ???

I should point out that most of my series links are set to Keep Until I Delete (KUID) AND Record All Episodes. I do however have several shows that I like to see if I have time but don't mind the HR20 deleting if it needs the space, so I do NOT have KUID on them. Those shows are set to delete if the disk is full.
What I'm worried about is:
1. HR20 deleting from of my Record-All-Episodes SL with KUID, which I figured it would never do, but maybe it would
2. Trying to figure out the HR20 algorithm for deleting shows that are not set to KUID.

It should be deleted the oldest shows first. If that's not the case, something is wrong.

Should in terms of programming approach, or should in terms of design implementation? In others words, is it designed to delete oldest first, or is that how you think it should work? I couldn't tell from your post, I'm not disputing with you.:) It could be "wrong" by design, or by malfunction.

In the past, b4 I went to the uber drive sizes, my box always deleted the oldest recording dates 1st.

That's what I thought it would do too, but has anyone else tried to sort by expiration date since old recordings and new ones are intersperse, and I'm not talking recordings in folders, but about recordings not in any folder.

There is no expiration date on recordings except for PPV or possibly showcases but you cant delete showcases anyway. The only sorts that should matter for this scenario would be sorting by recording date, either ascending or descending.(I think its called oldest first, etc.)

Okay, I thought sorting by expiration date meant the order in which shows would be deleted, now I release that expiration and deletion are not the same thing.
So I guess, since there is no way to display the list in order of newest to oldest, I just have do an open-all of the folders manually and write down the dates. Or I could just look at those with warning signs on them.
Thanks!
