I have a PS3 with latest updates. I have noticed a playback issue watching Blu-Ray of Planet Earth. While watching this series I have noticed occassional static or jagged lines almost like from a VCR that has tracking issues. This is particulary noticable on the water episode where they go over Angel Falls.

I have not seen this problem with any other Blu-Ray disc or other sources for the TV? (watched dozens of others from netflix) In fact, I at first thought I had a defective disc, but tried it with another copy from Netflix and had same issue in the exact same places.

Anyone have a suggestion as to what setting might be causing the issue? I have a SamSung 1080p DLP connected with HDMI.

HDMI problems maybe. Does it happen with other Blu-ray movies?

No, only this particular title. I have watched 50+ other Blu-Rays and none of the others have this issue.

I'd also make sure you were up on firmware upgrades.

I have the most current firmware for the PS3, or did you mean the TV?

The TV is a Samsung HL-S5687W and the PS3 is the original release 60GB model, although I upgraded the hard drive a year or so ago.

Yeah I meant the PS3 but I suspect you could check the TV as well.

Googling the model and firmware, I am not finding any downloads to firmware.

I'll check the version tonight.

I think it's the disc, or more specifically, the original film footage. I was very excited to see the Angel Falls segment ( I've actually been there) and I noticed the quality of the video as they go over the falls is terrible on my Panasonic BD35 player. I don't really see any "jaggies", but it's very grainy looking and just as you describe - like the tracking on a VCR is slightly off.

You said you tried it with another copy from Netflix. This copy was the same blu-ray you were trying to watch, but just a different copy???

I know it was mentioned before but the only possibility I can see is that the film footage is indeed bad at that point in the series unfortunately.

The current firmware for the PS3 is v2.70 :)
