We are looking at moving into a new house. The wire ran in the house is "18 AWG 75c Type CMB or CATV". Is this RG6 or lesser quality? If new Wire is need inside the house, what is the best way to find a quality installer? Also any idea on cost of running new wire, I understand this would vary depending on problems, just looking for a rough guideline. I have a Dish system and live in Mn, Minneapolis metro area.

jm9!

I will get back to you shortly about the quality of your cable, I will have to go look it up, I am a licensed/certified/bonded and insured installer from the St Paul area, it might be the best time to future proof your cable system with two cables going to each location, thats what I would do if I had the chance! But hopefully the stuff you have will work for now!

If you want a quick way to tell, look at the center conductor. If it is thin and bends easily, it is most likely RG59. RG6 has a thicker center conductor.

18 AWG UL rated at 75 degrees Celsius is RG-6 cable.
