reset master password problem

I am trying to reset my master password on my RCA DRD420RE from '0000' to a different one the kids wont know..... I go thru the steps, I enter the new code but it doesnt take my new code... after I back out and try my new password I get a message saying incorrect password entered and then the ole '0000' works fine...... is this card or ird related? Usually to change a password that has already been set, you have to call D* and have them reset your receiver password.

Actually Karl, the password can be changed at the receiver by the user if he/she knows the old password. The customer service can reset the password if you forget yours.
If the card was switched from another receiver, the password can't be changed until the card is returned to the original receiver.
Any response other than this could mean a malfunctioning receiver or card.
