Hello everyone,

I'm a longtime AT 100+ HBO/Cinemax subscriber who recently upgraded to AT 150, and I noticed that both Encore (at least the East and West feeds possibly more) and The Movie Channel (at least the East and West feeds possibly more) offer audio in Dolby Digital according to the websites of each network. Is dish network choosing not to utilize this and pass it on to us customers? If that is the case it does not make sense because we already have several channels in Dolby digital so why not have a couple more?

Any insight would be appreciated.

I wonder why they would hold back on them.

All Showtime channels are in DD. It must be a bandwidth issue.

Yeah the Dolby Digital takes up a lot of bandwidth. That would be my bet as well.

Full Dolby Digital is only 448kbps and can be mixed down to 384kbps (by limiting the main channels to 18kHz)

They could add Dolby Digital for 8 channels in the space they currently use for a single movie channel video stream.

The Encore channels are delivered will DD .
ENC-E, ENC-W and Encore Theater

TMC is news to me... maybe not via sat backhaul though.
384K is standard data rate for sat DD.

I'd like to see WPIX and KTLA with this feature--but I suspect bw issues on 119 eliminate that feature.

See the EKB Dolby Digital page (http://ekb.dbstalk.com/236) for the list of channels Dish carries in DD.
