i am getting "search error" message when using the theme search function for movies. i reboot by holding down the power button and then all is OK. when it reboots it upgrades the program guide also. my version on my 508 is P195. how does the 508 get new software versions? is P196 the current one for the 508? i have not had a phone line plugged in since installation. does this need to be done for upgrades? i do shut off the machine at night but it is recording at nite a lot. this is my 4th 508 and it worked OK for 2 months but now it is getting "buggy" with all these reboots etc.

The P196 update is sent out to batches of units over time. The firmware upgrade is sent via the satellite stream, so you don't need it plugged into the phone line. If you see the green Power light blinking, then the firmware is being downloaded. Do not interrupt the download.

I've gotten the "search error" once since receiving P196, so it doesn't fix that. Since I had never seen that before I thought it might actually be a new bug with P196, but apparently it isn't.

If you don't regularly reset your machine, you will have problems. The only way to keep these things functioning half way reliable is to do a reset every few days.
