I have played with one for a few weeks when they first became available. (I have a dealer who is a friend of mine)

I just moved into my new house after living with a cable modem for 2 years, so my expectations were high.

Coming from a Cable modem to a satellite modem was torture. Because of the latency of going from your dish to the satellite then down to Starbands dish it seemed to me like I kept getting stuck after hitting the enter button, I was use to the instant replies that I could get with my cable modem.

With that being said if a user only has a 56K modem and is stepping up to Starband they will think it is GREAT for someone coming from a Broadband connection they will probably hate it.

The speed is not that bad when your downloading large files, but if you jumping from place to place the minor delay could annoy some.

I started with Starband as a beta tester over 1 1/2 years ago. I moved from the beta system (a Dell computer with built in trans/receive cards) to a 180 modem last April. The 180 was a great improvement over the Dell beta system in reliability. I moved from the 180 to the 360 modem about a month ago and it (contrary to some claims) appears to be just as reliable as the 180 and just a slight bit faster. Download speeds are very good, upload, figure about the same as a wired 56k modem (or thereabouts). I don't recommend Starband to any customers who have access to DSL, so if you have DSL or cable modems in your area, go that way.

With the new boxes it has both a USB and Ethernet connection.

The origional Starband boxes only had USB.
