I'm surprised that DirecTV had trouble with the PBS affiliate. It seems those would be the easiest to sign on for retrans consent.

What kind of picture quality are you receiving off of Channel 26 Green Bay. I stopped into large TV dealer yesterday and was shocked at the snow on that channel.

My guess is that the PBS station is having trouble delivering a quality signal to the POP. Once that is in place, the PBS station will be available.

When I signed up for DirecTV back in January, the lady at Circuit City assured me the round dish would be acceptable for getting Green Bay locals!

Oh well, the installers are coming tomorrow to set me up with the oval. I can wait an extra couple days.

Any idea on whether we can get a PBS waiver to get a national feed?

in order to get green bay channels you will need the 18 X 24 dish

Any information on a possible PBS waiver? Does DirecTV even have a national feed of PBS?

DirecTV does indeed have a national feed of PBS. However, it is only given to those that qualify. Which means if your market is up, you do not qualify.

I took my older, non-Plus DirecTV receiver, and hooked it up to the 119 slot. Here is what I saw:

983 WBAY ABC 2
984 WFRV CBS 5
985 WLUK FOX 11
986 WIWB WB 14
987 WGBA NBC 26
988 WACY UPN 32

Now for the interesting part. I pretended to set a timer for channel 989. Channel 989 had this as the channel identifier:

989 WPNE

And channel 990 is:

990 WMMF

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. I'll check into that this afternoon when the oval dish is installed.

WPNE is the Green Bay PBS affiliate, while WMMF appears to be Fond du Lac (which we shouldn't really be getting this far north, but I wouldn't complain about more channels!)

I have the plus and can not get those . I tried .

My point is that WPNE and WMMF aren't available, but they are planned.

Here's the "canned" response I got from DirecTV on WPNE:

"Thanks for writing. We are sorry that the PBS affiliate, WPNE, was not added as part of your local channels package. Here's some background on why you might not see a particular local TV station or network affiliate on DIRECTV. If your city doesn't have a local affiliate of a particular network (such as PBS), we can't include that network in your local channel package. Also, some local stations broadcast their signal at low power or are unable to deliver a good quality signal to us. As new local TV stations start service, provide a higher power signal, find a way to get us their signal, or become affiliated with a network, we have a process to update our local channel offerings. We hope to continue expanding our local channel offerings in the coming months."

Ok, I'm following up with everybody on this. Here's the response from WPT directly:

"Thank you for contacting Wisconsin Public Television. Because of
a paperwork problem WPT has been delayed in being added to
the local line-up in your area. We hope to have everything straightened out in a week or so. You will need to contact the DirectTV folks again to make sure they add WPT to your line-up. If
you still have problems at the end of the month please let me know and we'll try to get it staightened out for you."
