Kind of a quick poll to see how long some of you have had your HR20. I'm talking about units that have never been fixed, swapped or modified.
I got one of the original HR20's back in August 2006. The box is still chugging away and has never had a day of trouble (hardware wise).

I got my first two HR20-700's in September 2006 and my third HR20-700 in May 2007. Still have them all.

Between 24 and 30 here, so I voted 24.
Also, no hardware trouble whatsoever. It lives in a hot cabinet in a very dusty room (due to gas heat.)

I have had my original 2 HR20-700's for almost 30 months if I can go by Michaels post above. I'm pretty sure we were both within the first group of folks to get them when first released.
I haven't had any problems with mine hardware wise either.
However, I have had eSATA drives connected to them for a bit over a year. So technically one could say they are modified.

October 2006 for my first one. Never had any hardware problems. All my DVRs are on a UPS and I am certain that helps.

Ahhh... I remember the installer pulling it out of his truck, first one he'd seen. Seems like so long ago, how it's changed, still runs like a champ. 30 months and counting

I stretched it a bit and voted 30 [when in fact it's 28].
While in the early days, I had my first swapped out a couple of times, changing it didn't resolve anything since, as we all found, the software update around Feb/Mar '07 was what resolved "my issues", which was also the time I got my second one.
Both have been going strong ever since.

Was one of the first to get one and have not a single problem with that unit.

Been about 26 months for me... so I voted "24".
I signed up for DirecTV in Jan. '07 with two HR20-700s. One has been swapped and I still have the other one. I can't remember why I swapped it though... but the referb they sent me is still running strong.
I have had two of the HR20-700,s since they came out, no problems at all. Each has a lap top cooler to lower temp and one has a 1 TB external hard drive running latest firmware. Outstanding receivers!
Oops, voted too quickly and didn't take into account that my first HR20-700 was replaced for becoming non-responsive to either IR or Rf remotes..

I got the first one in September of 2006 (DOB 09/06/06). The second one was in February 2007 (DOB 10/09/06) as a replacement for a cratered HR10-250. The second one appeared to be a referb since it was set to a Chicago zip code. Number two is my most used unit, followed by a HR20-100 that my wife uses. The first HR20 is in the bedroom and is mostly a backup. Both -700s have laptop coolers installed on top. No problems from any of them. :D

Since I've had my first for just over 28 months, I voted 30
Had since September 2006...never a minute of any kind of problems...wish my other 2 HDDVR'S were as reliable as my original...is great!!:)

HR20-700 here.
I put down 24 since it's the closest I could vote without "overbidding." :p It's actually much closer to 29 months (which it will be, as of March 21). I got mine on 10/21/06 and it's been working fine (physically) ever since. :)

First HR20-700 installed on 9/17/2006 (would have been 30 mths).
After HD crashed, it was replaced on 3/24/2007 (24 mths ago).
Second HR20-700 installed on 5/27/2007 (22 mths ago).
Third HR20-700 installed on 8/30/2007 (19 mths ago).

Stretched mine to 30 months as well, but I'm only 2 weeks shy.

I got my first HR20-700 in October of 2006 and it is still running to this day. I got a second HR20-700 in February 2008 (it was even a remanufatured one) and it is still running as well. I have not had to replace anyone of them.

Got my first one Oct 06, and the second one Aug 07. Both are doing well with no issues. My HR21-700 arrived in Mar08 DOA, was replaced within a few days and has had no issues since. Now, my H20-600 on the other hand............

I guess it took me a bit longer to convince DirecTV to give it to me for free.
I had once since they first became available. I remember the rush that folks were going through with trying to find site on the net that had one to sell, like one place in California that said they were going to get them and sell at a price cheaper then anyone else, and then all of a sudden the weren't.

I've had mine for over 2 years.. and still waiting for DLB.

First one installed September 26, 2007 with HD upgrade. Took the installer to go through 3 boxes to get one to work. I had heard there had been some problems but didn't know the details. Found this site the next day and been on CEs with everybody since then.
Second HR20-700 in January, 2008, took 2 to get one.
But all -including HR22-100 and H21-200 - have been mostly flawless even on CEs.

Got my first HR20-700 on 9/13/06 - so I think I am technically a couple of days short of 30 mos. It seems to be chugging along quite contently.
The second one (the youngster) arrived 8/14/07 - and also has been trouble free.

First 3 receivers are 28 months old. Going strong. (One owned unit has been modded to 750gb, but the disk is still working in a PC these days.) :)

I also got one of the first ones DirecTV had available, probably August of 06. It replaced an H20-600 that was constantly rebooting for no reason. (Interestingly, the other H20, from the same install, is still running fine).
Anyway, the H20-700 has been using an eSata for the vast majority of the time I've had it, and it continues to run perfectly. In fact, it's probably the least troublesome receiver I have!
Two HR20-700's late-December 2006. One more early 2007. Voted 24 months.
All three have been perfect. Never an issue. (knock on wood).
Firm believer that the HR20-700 is the best box performance wise.
I have 3:
One bought 12-13-2006 at Circuit City. (I nabbed t from the guy stocking the shelves)
One bought 8-14-2007 at Costco.
One bought 4-11-2008 at Costco.
Nov. 2006, 28 months, so I rounded up to 30.

I voted "18" although it is closer to 20 months for me, with many, many software updates since but not a single hardware related incident...

I got mine October 7, 2006. Had nearly every problem available, but I stuck with it, never re-formatted, and with the software upgrades I now have a very solid unit. I nearly threw it at the wall many times in 2006-07! Now I love it!

received both of mine( well sort of ) in Aug 2006 as well. One is the original and the other was swapped out maybe 8 months ago, I wasnt having HW issues but DTV wanted to get a look at the unit. Both chugging along well with a little weight on top of each unit to keep some of the noise down.
Only issue I have is that one of them hooked up via HDMI to a Samsung DLP will get a screen of green and yellow when tuning to a HD channel. Doesnt happen all the time and problem goes away by turning native off. When it occurs with native on just tune to channel 200 and hit back button and all is well.

November 2006 for mine.
I voted 24 months, in reality it is a little longer. My first HR20 was activated in mid January 2007. It was a replacement for a bum HR10.

I've had my HR20-700 since January 2007. Eventually noticed a bad OTA tuner and had it replaced around May 2007. No major problems since, but I still get get the occasional audio dropouts.
I had to argue with the techs to get the unit replaced. They thought there was only one OTA tuner since there was only one antenna input. :nono2:

I got mine on Feb. 9, 2007 and it's been solid as a rock unless I'm running new cable, trying out diplexers, playing with menu settings or generally p***ing off my wife.
I've had mine 26 months and just recently have had video output issues. I just got a replacement today (HR-20 100). I'm not sure I'm happy about it .
