Does anyone know why tonight's Yankees game is blacked out on MLB Network. It is not available on any other channel. Is this another D* screwup?

If your within Yankees territory the blackout is legit as they want you to watch it on your local station be it YES or MY9. They are carrying the NESN feed of the game.

The game is not on YES or My9. I am able to watch the game on NESN by I have the sports pack as part of the premium package. I don't understand why the game is blacked out on MLB if it is not being carried by My9 or YES.

MLB does not care if the game is not on in your area. If you live in Yankee broadcast territory then expect blackouts on MLBN. They showed a Cards/Mets SNY feed and I was blacked out because I live in STL. The game was no where to be found on STL TV.

I read someplace that the MLB Network will carry an alternate game, during the regular season, to be used in the 2 local markets of the primary game.

Basically, because MLB Net was simulcasting NESN, MLB Net needed the Yankees' permission to show the game in the NY DMA. The Yankees did not grant them permission, hence the black out in the NY DMA.

MLBN is going to black out every in-market game all season, whether or not it is broadcast by a local team's outlet. As with ESPN and other such black outs cable viewers will not notice because the alternate programming will show up on their same channel possition, while DBS viewers will have a blackout message.

I have heard different things about what MLBN will do. Some people say that it will show another live game, while others say that it will just show filler. Probably if MLBN is going to show another game, then an alt channel will show up on DirecTV, if its just filler, they will not bother.

Back when ESPN blacked out baseball in-market, it always had a second game and if you lived, as most people would most of the time, out of market for both, you got both, which meant DirecTV viewers got twice as much live baseball as cable. I am hoping that continues.
