Very new to this installation stuff and am anal about doing it all myself. My son in-law had his house ruined by an installer who couldn’t even speak English.

A DTV csr found my existing HR22 needed to be replaced and now the new unit won’t even complete the setup procedure. Am I doing something wrong? I have a swm5 dish with great signals but when calling DTV for activation they can’t find my system.

Is there a download/update that needs to be completed before their system can recognize my unit?

Is there a way of forcing a download/update?

Is there an advanced setup scheme in the background somewhere?

The new receiver completes the “acquiring the satellite info” OK and shows good signal strength but the csr can’t see my system from their end.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

There's nothing that they could "see" from their end; they just need the information from your receiver (Access Card #, Receiver ID#, and Serial #) to activate the receiver on to your account.

You should be able to get through the setup procedure and get the picture from CH100.

You can force a software download by pressing the red reset button behind the access card door. The receiver will reboot, and as soon as the "Welcome..." screen comes on, press "02468" on the remote. As it finishes booting up, it will kick over to the software download screen.

I recently added a receiver to my collection and found that I could not get the setup to complete without error. I found out that the beacon signal from the 103 spot is apparently no longer active which will not allow the receiver to complete setup fully until the unit is activated by D*. Call them up and activate and then see if setup doesn't work as advertised.

Thanks for all the good info. I'll give it a try soon.

You started with one HD DVR and replaced it with a different HD DVR that was sent to you, correct? You disconnected/removed the defective unit and installed the replacement unit in it's place, being careful to get all cable connections correct, right?

You will either get to a screen that says to call DirecTV to activate the receiver, or you will get to a point where you can watch channel 100 or channel 200. Once you are at that point (whichever is applicable in your case), call DirecTV and ask the CSR to activate your new receiver and de-activate the defective one. They will need the receiver ID number (RID) and access card number to activate the new receiver. It should only take a couple of minutes.

Once activated, and before you hang up, check to make sure you are getting everything you are supposed to be, check a local channel, one or two channels in the 200 and 300 series, and at least one channel in each premium group you subscribe to (if any).

Shortly after activation, you will probably see the receiver want to download new software. That's normal, say yes and let it do it's thing.

Thanks for the replies, good info.

This replacement unit stalled at the point where you call DTV for activation and would not respond to anything except the red button. The csr worked with me for an hour and finally decided to send out another box.

I tried all of the above recomendations and it stopped installation at the same place each time.
