Now that my SECOND sw 64 switch has failed I am considering the extended warranty. Can anyone briefly tell me waht limitatiopns apply? Do you pay for labor, shipping, things of that nature?

The $1.99 waranty covers parts only. Pay for shipping only unless you have CC autopay. In that case shipping is free too.
If you installed your system, your house is not ready for visitors:( Or similar issues the $2 a month warranty is a great deal.
The $5 a mmonth warranty covers labor too but there is a charge to ineiate it. E tried to sell me that the other day, but I dont need l;abor coverage and didnt pay much attention to the spiel.
The $2 a mnth warranty cover remotes, they tend to have preoblems from abuse:(

There is a $25 deductable on the labor. They didn't charge me the $20 start-up because they said I was an outstanding customer. Aren't we all.
I know that I had to pay for shipping (4.99) for my SW64 switch, but I wanted next day air and it was $14.99. That's it. It is a bargain, considering $1.99 covers ALL your equipment.

Here is the pamphlet I received from Dish about the warranty. Two highlights. First, you must be signed up for a year or you get penalized a $15 early withdrawal fee. Second, the commitment begins 30 days after you sign up.
Page 1 of these files is about 600k.
Page 2 is about 100K. I had to keep them large so you would be able to read them.

Do they actually use the term Deductable in their pitch or sales material?

Someone I replaced some hardware that got struck by lightening told me that there was a $30 deductable on the $4.99 warranty but they had the receiver for a couple three years and they did not charge them for it.

Dish has been misrepresenting their warranty obviously because I thought I read on here where it covered lightening and a customer of mine told me it did and I asked the CSR about it and they said it indeed did, but thats not what the contract says. Another CSR lie, no wonder why there are so many issues and disconnects.

Im know someone who was covered for lightening. I think they deny lightening if its a reoccuring trouble.
With my business I tell people our contract doesnt cover some troubles but I generally cover it anyway UNLESS someone starts abusing it.

What I dont understand is how one can be covered for lightening when its not in the contract. Dish could say that its not in the contract to be covered for that when they had said they were previously.

I'm on the warranty program and they told me when I signed up that all parts were covered, receivers, switches, dishes, etc. for any reason other than deliberate action to take them apart or break them.

Is it a monthly fee forever (i.e. automatically renews every 12 months) or is it one year of payments and is paid in full at 12 months?

$1.99 a month
Most plans exclude lightening because it's covered on most home owners/renter insurence plans. It's more of a non-stacking coverage issue. But unless you say there is lightening strike, or what you send them is a melted pile of metal and plastic, then I wouldn't worry about it.
That being said, if dish has a "deductable" then they are selling an insurance plan. In most states, selling insurance without being licensed is a VERY BIG fine.

I think the point that some people are trying to make is that it doesn't matter what they told you if the fine print doesn't say that. :-)

They may be able to determine whether it was lightening or not. I heard usually its caused because the receiver will not turn on but that is not always the case.

Just wanted to say I'm very happy with the warranty. I recenty dug out my very first rcvr from the attic that I bought in 1996. I wanted to add it to a bedroom. It would not download the latest software, so the CSR had me sign up the warranty and a month later I called back and they sent me out a brand new 301, no shipping fee.
So I beieve its worth the 2 bucks a month.

I bet they will make more restrictions in the future because of people doing such things as that, taking advantage of the system.

Well on a old receiver not downloading espically a 4700 SHOULD be taken care of. After all E decided to make them not upgradeable. So they should fix those receivers that missed the upgrade while they were off line.

My bad. What I meant was someone that activates a broken receiver on an account then waits a month to get a new receiver out of it.
