Has anyone seen either of Dish's monthly guides (Dish Flicks or Dish Entertainment Magazine)? Can either one be recommended? What does the DEM have that DF doesn't?

The Dish Entertainment Guide is just like TV Guide except it for the entire month.  I have subscribed to it for 5 years and can't be without it.  Flicks just shows what movies are playing and when.  You get that in the Entertainment Guide as well, so my recommendation goes to Entertainment.

It does not include HD broadcast although the latest one (June) mentions NBA-HD as available.  It does not list every local in local.  It does, however, show the East and West Nets.  It does not have the International channels or the Fox Sports in the grid.  In the back of the mag they have sports for the month by kind of sport (football, baseball, etc) that does include the Fox Sports info.

The grid listings by day have all the rest of the channels.  The back has all the Movies on for the month as well as Adult, Specials, and the aforementioned Live Sports.

The information is also available in your programming guide, if you have a PVR you can have upto 9 days information on the hard drive. If you use the timers you can set a weeks worth of viewing. The programming in the guide is probably more accurate than in the magazines. For example the magazine coming out for JUNE was printed about two weeks ago so you could get the magazine by the first of June it goes for the next 4 weeks. By the last week of June that printed information is at least six weeks old. The information in the guide was probably downloaded yesterday so it has a much greater chance of being accurate.

I subscribe to On Sat because it is a weekly pub and therefore more up-to-date and accurate. If you want a free sample here is the link www.onsat.com be sure to specify you want the DISH edition.

I think its good for those that would need it and a pretty good value because you get it for the whole month vs. a week if you got tv guide. Also if you have a pvr that goes 7/9 days in advance you would be less likely to need it.

We used to subscribe to DEM but stopped it because it had zero value. With a EPG on the TV that gave a quick snapshot not only of what was on but some information about the show the only other thing I needed was an overall list of what was on for that day. The local paper lists every channel that we have on Dish and is much more up to date than a monthly magazine.

Also DEM doesn't accurately portray what's on your locals.
