Is it due to to much stress on the mount? The bolt was just sitting inside the hole broken off.. The dish is bolted to the side of my deck and the installer did a pretty crap job...He did not install monopoles or anything...could not having the monopoles have caused this?

I am assuming you are talking about a lag screw holding the base down. It is possible to break the screw when trying to tighten it down. It is also possible that it could be broken by wind pressure but I would say that is doubtful.

it wasn't from being tightened down...i feel there is to much stress which caused it to break because of not much support...

Where is the break? If it's at the head of the lag-bolt chances are that the installer overtightened it. You can overtighten lag bolts (according to a close friend that works at a machine shop). That plus no monopoles could cause a break.

Agreed. My installer overtightened the bolt on one monopole. Sheared off the head which I found on the ground after he left. I had some stainless steel hardware so I just replaced it.

If I were you I would obtain two monopoles (if this is for a large Slimline antenna) and replace the broken hardware. You can get nice stainless steel hardware at Home Depot or Lowes. Then check your signal strength readings to make sure everything is back where it should be. If not, you'll probably only need a fine tune touch up.

Pictures would help people on here understand what the OP is talking about.

I've snapped many lag bolts, az/el bolts, and monopole bolts over the years. It's not that hard to do when you're installing a dish.
