I am looking into switching back to DirecTV and was hoping someone can give me some direction. I will be subscribing to an international channel which requires the WorldDirect dish. I understand that this dish points to the 95 and 101 satellites. I will have two SD DVR's (R22), and all of my SD locals come off the 101 satellite. I do not have any HD receivers. So I can get away with having just the WorldDirect dish.

My question is, can I have the WorldDirect feeding into a SWM8 multiswitch so that I can have only one cable run to each DVR? Do I need any other multiswitch in the setup?

Thanks.

The SWM8 does have the flex port inputs for the world direct dish. You would connect two coax to the first 2 regular satellite inputs of the SWM8, and one coax to the flex port for the word direct dish. It *Should* work, but I have not seen a post from anyone who has actually done this.

How many outputs does the LNB on the WorldDirect dish have?

It has 2, single LNB's mounted into a single bracket.

A standard 101 LNB with 2 outputs, and a special 95 LNB with 1 output.

So the two outputs from the 101LNB would go into the two 99/101 inputs of the SWM8, and the one output from the 95LNB would go into the first flexport. Is this correct?

Thanks everyone for all of your help.

Yeah that should work correctly.

The 101 LNB will be connected to the SWM ports labeled "13V" and "18V" (and NOT the ones labled "13V, 22KHz" or "18V, 22KHz"). The single output from the 95 LNB is connected to Flexport 1.

Doh! I just noticed that this pair of ports IS in fact also marked "99/101" and the other two are marked "110/119/103". Most switches don't have such markings, so I guess it never registered before.

Thank you to everyone for their input. I will be testing this setup and will report and let you know if this indeed does work.

Now I have one more question. I'm going to end up having three (3) R22 DVR's and 1 D12 receiver for a total of 7 tuners hooked up to the SWM-8. I want to make sure I hook this up right. Can someone tell me if this will work?

SWM Port 1 will have a dedicated run to one of the DVR's. The power inserter will be plugged in to the wall behind that DVR to power the SWM module.

SWM Port 2 will be hooked up to a STS-4 splitter. The other two DVR's and D12 will be hooked up to 3 of the 4 ports on the splitter.

Will this work? Do I need to put a terminator on the 4th unused port on the splitter?

I couldn't fine this setup on any of the diagrams out there but I do not see any reason why it would not work. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Yes, that will work. Yes, you should put a 75 ohm terminator on the unused splitter port.

Will the SWM-8 module work in conjunction with a Phase 3 dish? If so, how do you know the order of the four outputs from the LNB to hook them up to the four inputs of the SWM module? Thanks again to everyone for their help.

Yes, a SWM8 will work with a Phase 3 dish, and the order isn't important because the switch in the Phase 3 LNB will switch to the appropriate signal.

Obviously, this won't get you HD (at least, not much, and that little will be gone soon), and you'll need to have SWM-compatible receivers. Those are:

D12
R22
H20 and up
HR20 and up

For anyone who is interested, the installation went perfectly yesterday. We are using a single World Direct dish for our English and International programming. Luckily all of our locals are broadcast from the 101, so we did not need to use any other dish. The two outputs from the 101 LNB are going to the first two input ports of the SWM8 switch, and the output from the 95 LNB is going to Flexport 1. Everything is working excellent :)

The R22 receivers and the D12 have an option on the setup screen for [Round 18" Dish + 95 Satellite] which we used. All four receivers detected the SWM with no problem.

Thank you to everyone for their input on this.

Great to hear it went as it should. Enjoy!
