Do I understand, correctly, that the SWM8 allows for diplexing OTA? If so, is this meant for the SWM ports, the legacy ports, or both? I'm really only interested in the SWM ports, as I have no legacy equipment. I've grown so very tired of waiting for DTV to add HD locals for Lexington, KY. Perhaps when D12 goes up.

SWM ports only, not officially endorsed by Directv.

You can use the SWM OTA port but be aware that it attenuates the signal more than a standard diplexer.

I was diplexing with my Zinwell multiswitch and everything worked well, got 100% signal strength on all OTA channels.
Hooked up a SWM using it's ports but lost some OTA channels altogether.
Went back to my diplexers and the OTA channels were back to 100%.

So you may need a higher gain antenna or amp if you use the SWM OTA port. Try it and see.

When I installed my swm8, I added an amp for 2 channels (9 and 13) in the Los Angeles area. That made them OK.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm glad you mentioned that. I had wanted to ask if an amp could be used, if needed.

I'm going to do some more research about antennas and such, then probably start a new thread for final advice about my overall plan. Thanks again.
