I have a Pioneer PDP-5080HD HDTV along with a Sony BDP-S500 and some other equipment like the Bose V-30, 722 DVR etc. My question is as follows: why does a 1365 x 768P HDTV have such HDMI inputs that accept 1080P if the TV is not capable of that resolution.?????????????????

Sometimes I wish I knew which output resolution to set the BD and I can't find the answer.

Someone in this forum PLEASE HELP: confused:

The reason is because you might find that your TV does a better job converting 1080 down than converting 720 up. And some devices may only support 1080, or their might be a reason to set it on 1080. Since your panel's native resolution isn't either 1080 or 720, your TV has to convert everything to its native resolution anyway.

So they can sell it as being 1080P capable, of course! Honestly I'd rather have a set capable of as much as possible, even if it may be neglible with regards to picture. As for what to set the output resolution to, try it with each setting and see what looks best, I wouldn't be surprised if you find the 1080P looks the best.

You are right, 1080P does look better than 720P. They should have put a 768P setting on the BD.

Want to thank every one for you great assistance.:)

1366x768 isn't a standard HD resolution, though it's a common native resolution for "720p" flat panel TVs. Besides, the only real difference is that it would be using the Blu-Ray player's down-converter instead of your TV's. Blu-Rays are virtually all mastered at 1080p.
