I was bored at work and wanted to see what the Brits had in terms of PVRS. I found this demo on Murdoch's Sky Network website and was surprised how advanced their technology was. It was my impression the United States was the leader in the DTH & PVR market but it seems that we are not on the leading edge that we like to believe. I was jealous of some of the features of Sky. For example you can record 1 program and watch another on a box that costs only £199. While a 721PVR costs $500 to do the same thing. It can also auto record every episode of a series like a tivo.

I wonder what L199 is in American dollars though. Could be more.

About $300 would be the equivalent. As far as DBS goes we are way behind the Europeans, they didn't have a cable monopoly like we had and they bypassed the BIG "C" BAND dishes and have had small dishes for many years. Echostar (DISH) has had a European operation based in the Netherlands for about 20 years. Where do you think the DISH PRO technology came from. Spaun is a German company that has been exporting the European technology that is adaptable to our use.

I misphrased my original post what I really meant to say was I thout we were the leaders in PVRs-DTH combo receivers. I thought we were the leader because companies like TIVO & Replay originated in the United States. So I thought that we had some sort of competitve advantage and a head start.

I thought they had a smaller dish than what we use over here even as I have also heard that their satellite technology is more advanced than ours.
