You actually have a couple of options on how you do it.
1. Coax from connector on LNB to the red input connector on the splitter. Then a coax from the red output connector on the splitter to the red connector on the power inserter. Then a coax from the regular (not red) connector on the power inserter to the Sat 1/SWM input on the back of your receiver/DVR. Coax from the other splitter outputs to the other receivers/DVRs.
2. Coax from connector on LNB to red connector on the power inserter. Coax from the other connector on the power inserter to the red input connector on the splitter. Coax from each splitter output to the various receivers.
Either way works just fine. The critically important thing is to make sure the red connector on the power inserter is connected toward the dish, not toward a receiver.
As to what receivers work with the SWM LNB: D12, R16, H20, H21, H22, H23, HR20, HR21, HR22, HR23. All dash numbers (e.g., D12-300, D12-500, etc.)
