View Full Version : Confused...

Hi, I have two questions.

First, now with all the new models coming out I'm really confused about which PVR to choose. Can someone make a chart which compares all the models side by side (especially the 7XX, 5XX, and 3XX PVR's)?

Second, I'm trying to decide which PVR would be best for me. I would like a dual tuner PVR but I don't want any more wires running through the walls other than the one's that my house came prewired with. Is it possible to have one wire but still have a dual tuner PVR somehow? If somehow possible, which PVR would be best (don't need HDTV capability, need to controll only 1 TV, and would like PIP.)? If not are the 501/508 the only choice then? I don't need HDTV capability.

Thanks.

The only dual tuner PVR is the 721. You need two cables running to it - think of each tuner as a separate box.

Hi Gxshiem welcome aboard to DBSTalk, enjoy :hi:

Currently there are only 2 DishPVRs in production, the single tuner 508 and the dual tuner 721. There are a few more in the pipeline like the HD PVR921, 522 which will act like a server and output to two different TVs and the 821 will be another HD PVR that can record off air locals. Here (http://www.dbstalk.com/pvr_comparison.htm) you can find a quick comparison of the 508 and 721, since the upcoming PVRs are not out its hard to compare them.

One more thing to add...coming sometime this summer or fall, the new dishpro plus line of switches will allow you to take one line output from the switch and split it into both inputs of a dual tuner pvr - hence needing only the one line coming out of the switch to run both tuners.

I would wait until this fall/winter until buying a receive when the 522 and others come out.

Thanks guys, but one more thing. Will the new batch of receivers really come out this fall or will their release be postponed time and again? Idon't want to wait till like summer next year for example.

Its hard to tell if they are going to delay these receivers again, but they had mentioned these receivers a year or two ago as well so it has been planned for a while.
