From the New York Times (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/26/arts/television/26idol.html?_r=2&ref=television): Watch closely, America. Your Idols may be lip-synching.

A spokesman for the producers of “American Idol” said as much on Wednesday, after assertions by a former “American Idol” contestant that the weekly group numbers, which are performed near the beginning of each week’s results show, appear to be using recorded vocals this year.

It's not part of the competition and they all sound great that way. No harm done, is there?

It has been very evident this year that this is happening. See if you can spot it, just watch Scott. He will literally just stand there and do nothing.

It's not part of the competition and they all sound great that way. No harm done, is there?I wouldn't think it's a problem since they sound better. But this is a world where we buy recordings that are "tuned up" by automatic software and complain about lip-synching.:sure:

As long as it is not the actually performances that matter I am cool with it.. I find those things rather dorky just like the Ford ads.

Yeah, you're right ... we just seem to live for the opportunity to gripe.

Scott is the most noticeable, but I don't know why that is. But yeah, it's been pretty clear that this is the case this year. Also, some of the "Live" performances by some of the professional entertainers are not shot in sequence with the rest of the results show. They are likely filmed either earlier in the afternoon or on a different day. Perhaps due to scheduling, perhaps due to other reasons, but that's just the way it is.
