Thats to bad. I just called Directv. I currently have dishnetwork with a PVR which I love. When I got Dishnetwork, I gor the PVR 501 from them real cheap and no monthly fee. If I could get that same deal with directv, I'd sign up with them. You would thing they would want to sign up new subscibers and offer them a could deal on PVR or whatever Directv calls it.

that orbitsat has the new Philips DSR7000 DirecTiVo available to new Directv customers for $99 installed.

Considering how the DirecTiVo kicks the 501's butt by such a wide margin, you won't complain about the $5 fee after you use it for a week or two :D

Thanks..I'll check it out. I had a replay but sold it when i got dish. I liked it a lot better than the PVR. Do you know if the DVRs have 5.1 audio/optical out..UHF remote? Thanks

All DirecTiVos have DD5.1 optical output, but no UHF remote. I use those remote extender pyramid-shaped things, and they work just fine :)

I must say, in defense of the 501s, they were much faster than the DTivos and the Manage function and Caller ID were nice.

Overall, DTivo is still smarter and better for recording.
