how come dvd decryption is not necessary when you use vlc to break the law?

Probably because the analog copy goes to crap by the second or third generation. The digital copy is perfect forever.

Why is it ilegal to make a digital copy of a movie but it is not ilegal to make an analog copy of movie?

same could be said about music, why did noone go crazy when you copied on cassette tapes, but when you upload your collection online.....
