View Full Version : Sudden poor signal strength on 99c, 99s, not great on 103s, & 103c

For whatever reason over the last couple of days my signal strength 99 has gone down big time . . .

99c
0, 48, 0, 49, 0, 54, 0, 52
17, 56, 0, 50, 0, 50

99s
0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0
0, 0
0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 34, 0, 0

103 isn't that great either . . .

103s
0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0
0, 80
0, 66, 60, 80, 33, 62, 0, 0

103c
33,62, 37, 69, 33, 68, 34, 67
35, 69, 35, 65, 37, 69

While monitoring the strength on 99 and 103 I've noticed that the strength will fluctuate some . . . it'll go up a couple of numbers and then down one, back up one, etc.

I've been getting either a searching for satellite signal or a poor, pixelated picture on the HD feed of 501 and some of the other HD movie/subscription channels.

Can moisture cause something like this?

Should outside cable connections be change/cleaned every so often?

Moisture in cable connectors can do that, and so can bad LNBs. Another common cause of crappy 99/103 signals can be a small misalignment of the dish. Have you had heavy winds lately that could have nudged things around?

I don' t know where the OP is in OK, but this mornings news showed some record snows across the state. Snow on the dish?

Yep . . . it was fairly windy here the last few days.

Should I try to realign using the strengths on 99 and 103?

Just a dusting here . . . I'm in Edmond, a suburb on the north side of OKC.

Ultimately you want to have the best signal on all of the sats, but 99/103 are most important as the 101 is far less picky. Probably your elevation is fine, just turn the azimuth screw slightly.

Yeah the wind could have knocked you off just enough to lose the more picky ones.

While you're there, check the tightness of the bolts used to attach the dish to the surface as well.
