It may have been reported already, my apologies if it has. A bit of HD festivus this week and it's no April Fool's Day remark.

I cant quite get all excited for MASN HD 24/7. Orioles and Nats games were already in HD on the -1 subchannels and thats all that will be in HD for a while. Seems like a waste of bandwidth until they get other HD programming.

but the nationals and birds will each be broadcasting about 100 games in hd this season according to their sked!

They will both increase from 40 games to 105 games in HD each this season. Plus for the games that are in HD the pre and post game show will be in HD.

MASN will also broadcast ESPNEWS in HD (but that does not really matter since we have ESPNEWS HD anyway).

They will also be broadcasting a lot of college sports in HD and the 4 Ravens preseason games in HD.

Hopefully a few other shows on MASN will be in HD soon.

Thanks for the info Satracer, we do appreciate it.

But can you at least tell us which ones are coming? From what I've been reading on here we are only getting 2 full time HD RSNs. Has this now changed, are we getting G4 as well, why all this secrecy?

Thanks

the problem is there aren't that many other shows on MASN that can go HD. Who would care that Garceau and Marks show was in HD? Os/Nats Classics wont be in HD for obvious reasons. Between those two and ESPNews thats about 75% of their programming lately.

Thanks for the info satracer. Much appreciated.

I hope for several Channels already mentioned above by multiple posters.

I will be happy though to see any New HD added with the sole exception being "bandwidth wasting" "More Premiums" in HD.

Even if it is Premiums(doubtful) I can still be happy for the ones that want this.

Sadly by 7:00AM Wednesday though we will have "The Usual Suspects" with their incessant whining, pissing, moaning and steady harangue of criticism flowing unabated.

Undoubtedly.

Remember the basic rule of "more HD on DBSTalk": if it's a channel you want, then of course it's just long-overdue justice. If it's a channel anyone else wants, it's just a waste of bandwidth.

Not to worry. The law of equal and opposite reaction seems to work pretty well here. Once the critics begin their incessant whining and pissing, you can count on the other usual suspects/fanboys to jump right, bitching and berating anyone with the nerve to bash DirecTV.

They are not whining, they are nagging.:D

Kind of like when your wife asks you to take out the trash during football. You tell her you will soon.

Then three hours later she brings it up again, and you say "as soon as the 4:00 game is over".

Then she brings it up again and Sunday night football is on and you'll do it soon, maybe during a commercial.

Then, it's bedtime and you'll do it in the morning. The problem is, however, you now have to sleep on the couch because the wife is mad.

Well, Directv has "told" the public, by way of press release, that "SOON" they would add some more HD, and now people, like the wife, want to nag Directv until they actually deliver.

You wouldn't blame the wife for nagging so don't blame the people who complain, blame the people who said I'll do it soon and didn't deliver.

My wishlist would be my long overdue locals, the long overdue previously announced premiums, then as many of the lower tier networks they can add. Doesn't the tradition of Festivus include telling each person how they've disappointed you through out the past year? If this Wednesday's HD Festivus is just the 2 RSNs we've known about for some time, I think we will have a lot of posters keeping the true meaning of Festivus alive and well.

Why hasn't this so called breaking news been published in any actual websites like Multichannel News, Broadcasting & Cable or TV Week? Why doesn't DirecTV's website say anything about it or any of the above mentioned channels' sites for that matter?

no seriously why no mainstream pres coverage? Comedy Central HD had a huge story in Multichannel News twice back in January.

First, I'm not sure how "breaking" this news is. People have been reporting this information for weeks. Sixto's thread on changes to D* HD satellites confirmed the additions last week.

As for why it hasn't been reported, I'm not sure how newsworthy RSNs additions are outside of their local market. If for some reason you doubt the veracity of the the additions, go here

http://www.pressboxonline.com/story.cfm?id=4849

and scroll down to the bit where the writer says MASN HD would show up on local Comcast and Fios systems along with DirecTV.

TomCat4680

Undoubtedly.

Remember the basic rule of "more HD on DBSTalk": if it's a channel you want, then of course it's just long-overdue justice. If it's a channel anyone else wants, it's just a waste of bandwidth.

Amen brother!

Time to air my greivances.

DirecTV, your obsession with sports that only 10% of the population is willing to pay to watch has angered me since day 1.

Your refusal to add more basic cable channels and the rest of the premium movie channels in HD is also aggravating.

75 PPV channels in the year 2009 is the most out of touch and obsolete technology in the world today. Even Comcast doesn't have linear PPV movie channels any more. Come on DirecTV, step into the 21st century.

I'm getting FiOs as soon as they get here (if ever).

Am I nuts or are there more HBO channels up, if so I wonder if they might be adding hd to some of them.

Not sure if it means anything but I noticed they recently added "e" to to the channel names for the east coast feeds for the HBOs they currently carry. And they changed the w to lower case on the west coast feeds.

Directv had a press release 2 years ago that they would be adding numerous HBO and Max channels. I don't have the link right now, but it has been linked numerous times. They also had another press release that stated Hallmark HD and local PBS channels. They recently started adding local PBS but all the other channels mentioned have yet to be added.

Edit:

I looked up the press release about HBO/MAX

I'd trade in most of the crappy sports channels for the rest of the HBO and Skinemax's in HD any day. All I need is the ESPN's, MLBN, NFLN, BTN and FSD.

STO does nothing for my location, but MASN HD will be a nice full-time addition.

It appears that there will be HD baseball every night (Orioles and Nationals) during baseball season. Each team is scheduled to air 95 games in HD on the full-time MASN HD.

I see. So because you have FS Detroit in HD then screw all the others out there that don't have their RSN in HD (or only part time). You might have a different tune if *your* RSN is the one going HD this week.

Why must everyone be all "me, me, me!" with this stuff. Geeeese.

Agreed.

However, there really should be something more than these two regional channels in order for the tag "festivus" to be appied. Satracer isn't prone to over-hyping, so presumably something more is going to be delivered.

Those within the markets appreciate the fact that they are full time. And with the duel feeds on those sports packages they would have to turn most of them on at the same time anyway.

Exactly which channels did Directv promise and where is the proof that they promise them?DIRECTV promised to bring in many more offerings on their HBO/MAX channels in a press release (http://investor.directv.com/releasedetail.cfm?ReleaseID=286351) dated June 13, 2007.

Essentially they promised 10 new channels (at the time they offered just HBO East HD) and they have delivered three as part of their "DIRECTV will begin to roll out the HD feeds of 11 HBO and Cinemax channels nationally in September."

You asked.
