We just got a phone call and on my bedroom DVR/Caller ID (HR20-700), it displayed the name of the place that was calling, but on the one out in the living room. (HR21-700), it displayed "Unavailable". Why would it display two different things results.

Are the proper DSL filters in place? If so, I would guess maybe a bad phone lead.
Swap receivers and see if the problem exists on the receiver or if it's in the location. Obviously if at the location, inside wiring. Also look at the type of wiring in our building. Are power line transceivers being used?

Did the phone number display in both locations?
I just recently switched from dish to directv, happy with the channel line up, signal strength ,equipment set up and all else except caller i.d. has not worked right from day 1. Already have to service calls in to tech support and they they just flat out told me it was a software issue with the h22 which is the hd dvr model, I'm a 30 year phone tech with the local telco , nothing wrong with house filter , even rean it without straight to box, no difference, so its not the dsl. Also bottom line this line cord worked on every call with the dish network dvr box for 2 years, for the last 2 weeks it has only showed 6 calls out of around 35 calls to my house. And I guess when you can plug a cheap phone into the line cord that your using and the display shows up on that I will not let directv tell me its something I'm doing wrong, I guess I have no other choice but to wait for a fix from them.

Does anyone know if the caller ID works with Vonage or does it have to be an regular telephone line?

I have been using caller ID on my HD DVR's with Vonage for a couple of years now without a problem. It actually seems to work better than when I had a Verizon landline for some reason.

Cool. I'm going to hook it up tomorrow and try it. Thanks!

My problem is my caller id works on both my other receivers but not on 1. I swap one to another, and now the one that did not display caller id before, now it does. I have 2 HR-21 , the one does not display the caller-id- any ideas??

As suggested above. Do you have DSL? And if so, are the DSL filters installed? Possible bad phone line! Any receiver display it in the room where it didn't before?

I had an older non HD receiver in the room before and replaced it with this newer HD DVR- I do have DSL and filter installed. Sometimes it will display incomming calls but 98% of the time it will not. If I plug in my old receiver, it works.
