I am on a business trip to Tokyo and a few hours ago we had a major earthquake hit to the North (in Sendai where I was yesterday), mag. 7.0.

So my hotel starts shaking, then swaying back and forth what feels like about a foot or more at a time.  I get up to go to the door frame (I used to live in California so wasn't that worried), when I look at the window and see the building next to me swaying.  I notice all the DBS antennaes and I think to myself, I wonder if they are having Earthquake fade (like rain fade) because of the swaying.  I knew right then I was a DBS geek...

Glad you're OK, Sam. Great idea for a thread "You know you're a DBS geek when....."

A personal quesiton:

Which do you find the scariest - earthquakes in Japan or all the drive-by shootings in Cobb County? ;)

Too close to call...  Maybe it really is going to work in Kennesaw GA, where homeowners are required by law to have a gun in the house...

And to think my wife and I considered moving to the Atlanta area several years ago and looked at houses in Kennesaw, yikes! glad we moved to Chattanooga TN, GA area instead. Out in the Apison and Collagedale TN area where I live is like liveing in Mayberry, very low crime rate and we do not need a gun in are house, just a barking dog. ;)

Yes, one of the few laws that make sense in Georgia. Doesn't Glock have a plant in Cobb? If so, could there be a connection...???

Both of my sons are cops and they both carry Glocks. I want something a little bigger, maybe a .50 cal. "Widowmaker". To paraphrase America's lawyer, Atty Ken Neugent, "One shot does it ALL!

Wow! Glad you are okay Sam. Earthquake fade can be a problem. :)

BTW: Thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule and visiting us while on your trip. Hope you have a safe flight back to the states.

This sounds like that one post where they said the weird laws that some states have.

Hello, I'm new to this forum and have found it to be a great source of information. I found the bottom part of this post hilarious. I Just returned from business trip to Kennesaw and received the following from my employee that had been relocated there from California:

1) Kennesaw City Gun Laws

Kennesaw City Ordinance
Sec. 34-1 Heads of households to maintain firearms.
(a) In order to provide for the emergency management of the City, and further in order to provide for and protect the safety, security and general welfare of the city and its inhabitants, every head of household residing in the City limits is required to maintain a firearm, together with ammunition therefore.

(b) Exempt from the effect of this section are those heads of households who suffer a physical or mental disability, which would prohibit them from using such a firearm. Further exempt from the effect of this section are those heads of households who are paupers or who conscientiously oppose maintaining firearms as a result of beliefs or religious doctrine, or persons convicted of a felony

Yep, that is the code! After all, Kennesaw is one of the hotbeds of possible foreign invasion or uprising ;)

So you have to own a gun...
unless you can't or really don't want to.
Why bother passing an ordinance?
