Does anyone know the fees involved in upgrading receivers? We've just got new TV's in 2 bedrooms and want to switch from the standard boxes to the HD boxes.. Do they give any credit for the old box, or just charge 99.00/per new HD box and thats it?? Thanks for any info! The DTV website wasnt much help.. :o

varies, free to 199.00 for dvr depending on what you can get from the CSR and how long you have been with them. Will need a new dish for HD also. Best bet is to call and talk to them

If you're upgrading, they might throw in one standard HD receiver with free installation (you'll need a new dish), but you'll have to pay for the second. Of course, YMMV.

This, along with the other mysteries of DirecTV CSR's, is a hard one to answer. DirecTV bugged me, through several phone calls, to upgrade my H10 to an H2x. The offers varied from no fee but with shipping and handling to a fee plus shipping and handling. In the end I got a totally free upgrade without any fee or shipping and handling. Better yet they mistakenly sent me an HR20 instead of an H20 (I wanted OTA capability) and said to keep it when I called about the mistake. Since I already had DVR service there was no extra charge so it worked for me.

If you have met your original 2 year agreement then they will probably upgrade you to hd for free for 1 dvr. Might have a "delivery/installation" charge around 20 bucks. Extra hd recievers will cost you. If they don't upgrade for free and you have past your 2 years then threaten to go to cable. If you are still inside your 2 years then you probably will have to pay for the new receivers/dvrs. Or wait till the 2 yars is up.

Thanks for the replies!! I should of stated that we already have an HD-DVR (HR-21) in the family room, so I dont believe we'll need a new dish, will we? Since our bed rooms only have a single cable running to them, we'll be able to get HD, but not HD DVR, correct?? (W/O adding any multi switches or anything) Thanks again! :)

With one coax you will get HD and HD DVR. You will not get dual tuner capability. In other words, you can still record, you just can't watch something different live while you are recording. All other DVR functions (pause, rewind, etc.) will work just fine.

Ah, ok! That makes sense! Thanks again! :)
