First off please no emails saying use Firefox or anything else, I like IE and want to stay using IE lol. But I am using IE7 and I have also updated to IE8 and had the same problem. I downgraded back to IE7 because I don’t like 8 and I have reset everything in the options but still I have the problem. The problem is that I have to open and close a bunch of times for it to find a website. Last time I did it I have to do it 10 times. For example I open it type in an address and there is no progress bar at the bottom, I have to repeat this step between 5 and 10 times for the green progress bar to appear and to find the website. Any ideas?

Have you tried Safari? :D

Just kidding. Don't go getting all sensitive and report me to the mods. ;)

In IE, under Internet Options, Connections - how is it set up?
It sounds like it's not trying to use the LAN connection as the primary.
If you're on DSL, Cable or another always on connection, there should be no dial-up connections present.

Could also be firewall settings. Turn off firewalls and try it.

You can also reset the WINSOCK entries:
Type this at the command prompt ---> netsh winsock reset catalog

In all seriousness, you could rule in or rule out network problems by trying another browser. If it works with the second browser, then you know it's just another one of the many problems people have with IE.

I experienced the same problem. I went through all my settings, reset modems, routers, all the usual. I began to think as you, must be IE8. Before I made any changes, I dug out my laptop running IE7 and had the same issues. I called AT&T, my DSL provider, as a last resort and of course they said there were no problems but they would run a couple of tests to be sure. Now my connection is perfect, they fixed it but would not admit to a problem.

That almost sounds like DNS, or perhaps the ISP is tweaking the connection off or sleep until a request is used.
You can switch the DNS to OpenDNS's free servers and see if it improves.
