View Full Version : Combining 2 satellite runs to HR21 into 1 RG6 cable
I know with Dish I could combine both runs to each tuner on to 1 RG6... is there any hardware I can run that combines both to 1 RG6?
I currently have a zinwell switch, so I'd have to combine the signals after they come out of the switch and then split them back at the TV.
Thanks in advance!

I believe a single wire multiswitch would be of great help to you if you have fairly new equipment. Search this forum for "SWM" and you'll find a lot of resources.
How you do it depends on what hardware and programming package you have. The short answer is maybe.
DIRECTV does have a single wire multiswitch (SWM) that allows you to use one wire, but it works only with the latest DIRECTV receivers (D12, R16, R22, H2x, HR2x)
To give a more precise answer requires knowing what dish you have and all the receiver model numbers.
You're not in Kansas anymore.
I have 2 HR21s, and 2 SD receivers (not sure of the exact model number). I have the 5 LNB dish, had D* installed last July.

You could replace your WB68 with one of these: http://www.solidsignal.com/prod_display.asp?prod=SWM-8
There are three legacy ports for your SD boxes.

If your SD receivers are D12s then you also can do it through the SWM.
Check the back of the d12 at the sat in for (SWM) or (FST) (I think is what the older ones may say.) Anyway not all d12 will support swm, I have 4 of them in my house that are not swm compatible. At least they do not say so on the sat input behind the box. They are almost 2 years old.

All D12s will absolutely will work on a SWM system.

A SWM8 will work just fine for your application.
Obviously, you'll run the HRs off the SWM ports. If your SD boxes are D12s, then those would also go on the SWM ports. If they are D11s or any other "legacy" box, then you would put them on the legacy ports.
I see no reason why a SWM8 wouldn't work for you.

The OPs programming package has no bearing at all if a swm will work or not.

Half correct.
If he were to use the SWM LNB then yes, he would not currently be able to get any programming from the 95 or soon to be gone 72.5 slots.
If he were to use the SWM8, then those limitations go away.
But, bottom line, an users choice of programming does not in any way limit the use of a SWM. It will guide whether a SWM LNB or external module is required.
