At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas Wednesday, EchoStar took the wraps off a series of new products for its DISH Network DBS service as well as a price increase for basic packages.
The $1 price hike covers basic programming packages for the DISH Network DBS service, and goes into effect March 1. EchoStar attributed the price increase to rising programming costs and the addition of new channels and services in 2001.
On the equipment side, EchoStar unveiled its DishPVR 508, a receiver and personal video recorder with up to 80 hours of total video storage. The receiver made its debut along with the much-anticipated DishPVR 721, a high-end receiver with digital recording capabilities and ports for high-speed Internet access.
