I am having problems getting LOS to 95 and 110 for DirectTV since my house is surrounded by trees. The DTV installer came out and has ruled out installing on chimney or siding due to no LOS. The only other possible alternative seems to be installing the dish on the roof of the second level. The problem is that the roof is cedar shakes.
I am aware that DTV insataller will not install on cedar shake roof as part of their standard install. I am aware that this will require a roofer with experience in cedar shakes to create a wedge or platform, seal the roof, etc.
Has anybody found a way and successfully installed the dish on a cedar shake roof? If so, can you please share the details on the mount used, how is it sealed, how did you run the co-axial wires, etc.?
Any and all ideas/suggestions/tips welcome.

As an installer I would suggest a non penetrating roof mount. There is a style that sits on the ridge of the roof with equal weight on each side. The 2" mast would sit in the middle. These things require ballast and are adjusted to match your roof pitch.

You may want to take a look at the commdeck mounts here:

Talk to your roofer about installing one.
You say you have no line of sight to 95 & 110. What programming are you looking for?
Only international (Russian, Hindi, etc) is at 95.
Core programming SD & HD is at 99/101/103.
Some locations have SD locals at 110/119.
Mas & Jadeworld programming are also at 110/119.
Before you procede, I would make 200% sure that you can't hit the sats you need from somewhere else. Once you rule out other locations, then again make 200% sure you can hit the sats you need from the roof location.
Once that is done, then you should be good to continue.
Lastly, if the roof is the only option, and will be in a spot where someone must leave a ladder to get to it, I'd strongly suggest investing in a dish heater to manage ice/snow buildup.
