301 not loading EPG?

I have a PVR501 setup in the living room, and my wife has a 301 in the kitchen. Both have a direct connection to the dish itself, and neither are hooked up to a phone line.

My EPG on the 501 usually has between 7 and 9 days worth of data.  Her guide on the 301 only shows at most 2, usually 1.5 or fewer.  Everything else says 'info not available', but if you go far enough, it'll download on demand [which takes forever].  I shut her receiver off when we go to bed, so it's off between say midnight and 0800 EST. 

Should the EPG on the 301 be downloading a longer EPG, or does the 301 not do that? [I didn't really read the documention on her reciever.]

The 301 does not store more than a few hours of guide info. If you left it on and did not use the EPG for a day, it would only have the current and next show in the guide. The download speed has been recently improved significantly.

The 301 dosen't have a hard drive so it's memory is very limited. The 501 stores upto 9 days on the hard drive so the picture in guide comes up immediately and program information is almost instant.

How come nobody explained this to you when you got your system installed?

Still, you'd be surprised what you can learn if you read the manual accompanying the article.
