Apologies if this has been asked previously (I am sure it has, but my searches have left me lost...)

I have 4 DirecTV receivers in my house (2 regular, 1 HDTV, and 1 HC-DVR (HR 20).

All are working fine except the HR20 DVR. It periodically (and currently more often than not) has stopped receiving any of the low channels (which are the local/network channels -- 2-11 or so). Just get a black screen with program info overlayed and the 771 error. Other channels work okay (and all the other receivers get all channels).

We have a perfectly blue sky currently, so reception shouldn’t be the issue.

I've tried: resetting the DVR (using red button), resetting the DVR (by unplugging for 60 seconds), removing the card and reinserting it.

Anyway, before I call DirecTV to get them to step me through what I've already tried, was wondering if anyone has any suggestions.

I can get those locals either OTA or through the satellite. Of course over the air would be an antenna problem but you are using the satellite to get it probably. You could do the signal level check and see if you are receiving the transponders off the satellite feeding your locals. You can find out which one does your locals searching dbstalk. Maybe your satelllite dish moved losing that satellite. Good luck.

Go to D*'s website and reauthorize your HR20.

Go to D*'s website and reauthorize your HR20.

Resending authorizations will not in any way ever affect a technical issue with searching for sat signal.

Try swapping your sat in cables on the back of the receiver and disconnecting and reconnecting any other sat cable connections behind the receiver and reset it again. BTW.... the access card has absolutely nothing to do with your signals so that will never help.

Thanks, all for your suggestions and help. (And I knew the card had nothing to do with the signal...but thought what the hell!).

After trying all of the above, I called tech support, and after refusing to once again (with them on the phone) repeat everything I'd already tried, they agreed to send out a technician to take a look....
