$50.00 sounds right. I hope the installer knows of this before hand as he will NOT have the necessary cement and pipe, to do the job, on his truck.

If you don't really need one, expect to pay more than if you do need one.

Hopefully that well be the price.

I charge $50 for a 1 5\8" pole and $75 for a 2" pole. The 2" pole is much more expensive.

The Slimline dishes have a 2" ID receptacle.

Directv sent the following memo out in February concerning custom charges.

Memo (http://forums.directv.com/pe/action/forums/displaythread?rootPostID=10501769)

I guess some folks didn't get a copy.

If you go to DirecTV's website and click on "Installation" on the bottom of the homepage you can see what is included in a "free" " professional" installation.

I just went through this while assisting a client (finally installed, on Friday 4/3, started process on 3/5!) with a movers connect/H.D. upgrade/plus International programing.

BACKGROUND.....POLE MOUNTS NEEDED FOR LINE OF SIGHT, 30 FEET FROM GROUNDING POINT OF ENTRY, home is new, and pre-wired (by builder) during construction. I added 4 outlets, installed multiswitch, installed ground blocks and made all connections, traced all cables, labeled all cables, replaced screw on RG6 connectors in outlets with PPC compression connectors, replaced cheap barrels in wall plates with high frequency barrels, made jumper cables from wall plates to receivers, all receivers with remotes were in place (except for H.D. box that was to be delivered by installer) this is what I encountered.......

Free pole mount up to 5 feet from home if required for line of sight. 2" for Slimline, 1 5/8 for International. Over 5 feet, $1 per foot to bury lines. This is if an HSP (in my case, DirecTV ) technician performs the install. I requested an HSP installation.

This is what I received... AFS (Mastec) installer showed up (4/1). Quoted $75.00 per pole mount, $50.00 for a wall fish (single RG6 for International dish from outside of home, up 1 foot inside of interior wall and into suspended ceiling to multiswitch) and then called me "Smart Guy" for the home not being wired correctly (builder had 4 lines in place and I had already pulled the 5th line that the installer did not see).
I fired him and sent him on his way!

Called DTV, requested HSP installer again and was scheduled for the next day(4/2). NO SHOW and DTV could not find a work order! Requested HSP once again with appointment set for the next day (4/3).

Installer arrived from AFS (Connect TV), $75.00 per pole mount! I decided to let him install as the customer had been without service for almost a month. NO International dish on truck (but was on work order), he leaves to get one and bring it back. Over 2 hours later, he comes back, no 1 5/8" pole for International dish! Luckily, I have one for him to use.

Long story at this point, so in cutting to the chase, I called DTV the same evening and they credited the customers account the $150.00 that was charged for the pole mounts....................

The rest of the world inspects the work and submits a bid. If DTV wants to quote prices in advance for all conditions they can cowboy up and start paying an employer's half of Social Security and all the Workman's Compensation Insurance for their employees.

Included in any price is some form of warranty (or specific statement of no warranty)

My most expensive pole mount was $300.00 and included a 20ft 6x6 in a four foot deep hole. The hole was filling with water as I added eight bags of quick dry concrete.

Then there was the sixty foot dig in crossing a gravel road and under a sidewalk That was an extra.

Keep in mind, if you have any kind of unusual circumstances in your custom install prices are subject to change.

IE, in our area, due to soil conditions ALL pole mounts are custom work, and the price starts at 75, and goes up at 65 an hour for rock.

Also, a Technician is not obligated to do the custom work, so you might want to keep that in mind if you want to play hard ball.

Wow, thats one hell of a mount. That sounds pretty cheap for all of the time and money that you had in that job. I'm not an installer but I can't stand when people try to get something for nothing from a guy that is just trying ti make a living. they act like your time is worthless and their's is more valuable. $300 may sound like alot to alot of people, but they don't factor in what you have in time and material.

I was able to cut a deal on the pressure treated 6x6. It was a five receiver installation and they invited me to eat with the family. Cerbasos mas con TV!

But what really frosted my ass was.......the family decided they needed a sixth receiver. I said no problem...next week I'll be back and do the extra wire and bring a box. During activation the Spanish speaking CSR stole the deal and entered the A/O with the local HSP. This is after the local HSP had been there and pronounced the job NLOS; impossible!

When I returned to check this pole ( a no charge item) I noticed the HSP guy had changed all the F connectors I had installed on the multi switch for compression fittings.....three uncompressed. He squirted silicon all over the LNB on the dish and figured he had really done something.

But after the HSP modified the installation the customer still had my card and the offer to call if there was any problem.

IF it is for a line of site there is no charge for a pole mount; any other reason the price is $75 and no more

My installer wanted $75 for a 2" O.D. pole, when he got there he didn't have, and said @20 or $30 (I can't remember) if I ran and got the pole, I just had it put on my roof.

Well, we installed Sunday but DirecTV didn't put down that I needed a pole mount(They put down I needed a tripod mount), So instead of the guy coming back(He didn't know if he had what he needed back at base, and when he would be back) we just did a tripod mount(With a 1 LNB Round dish).

Everything went fine. 1 HD DVR(HR23) 1 R15 and one standard IRD. This is fine as I didn't need a HD feed(No HD TV yet). A few hiccups along the way(I was supposed to get HBO,ShowTime and Starz Free for 3 months but the CSR didn't see that, I called DirecTV HQ(Were the work order came from) and all is set now).

Thanks everyone for their help.

I have a feeling this thread is about to get really active. It is going to be really hard to get the slimline for free now that they have installed and activated equipment. I hope the tech noted the crap out of the account letting everyone know that they still owe you a slimline!

Since Direct tv cut our money in half. There is no free pole mounts, line of sight or not.The customer is picking up the tab, unless it is a dtv installer.

I do now have an HDTV and just called DirecTV, they're upgrading the 3LNB Dish(I upgraded from 1LNB to the 3LNB in April) to a Slimline Dish at no charge. It only took 7 minutes to set everything up for the installation appointment(on Saturday, August 15, 2009.). The only reason it took that long... Because I had to switch phones(The one I was on died because no one charged it!.)

As an installer........I won't work for the HSPs.....but my rate is $60.00 / hr.

Pole in concrete with a minimum dig in = $75.00
The HSPs ( Home Service Providers) that DTV uses will give a FREE pole
because they don't plan on paying the tech.
Two inch OD poles are around $12.00
Two bags of concrete are around $10.00
It could take an houre to get everything set.....so you miss a job
that day.
Prices are local and subject to the whims of hungry techs and greedy managers.
