I have searched and searched with no luck. maybe I am not looking in the right places! I was looking at the (Western Digital WDH2Q20000N 2TB My Book Studio Edition II Hard Drive with Quad Interface (FW400/FW800, USB 2.0 & eSATA) ). I would like to know if anyone has had any success with it before I shell out the $250.00 or so clams.

Any help or knowledge would be appreciated……

If I remember right, the Mybook doesn't work on the Hr2x's. I suggest an Antec MX-1 enclosure and a Western Digital greenpower drive of your choice.
BTW, if you do a search on the forum, you will find alot of threads on this that may help you out.

Thanks and I have but it just seams like I get more questions than answers I guess I am looking for some one to say this is the exact hard drive that you need (insert model number here) :)

I tested a 750MB Seagate in an Antec MX-1 enclosure on my HR23-700 and it worked perfectly.

The drive came out of a Segate FreeAgent Pro which I couldn't get to work on my HR21-100 or my HR23-700.

Once I put it in this enclosure it worked flawlessly.

People on newegg are saying that the fans are not good on that enclosure and that they dont last long either.

I would buy this enclosure
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371008&Tpk=antec%20mx-1

..and put this drive in it

...or, put this drive in it.

That is one setup that I was considering but call me greedy I want the 2TB unit. I just don’t want to be the test pilot !

You can get a 2TB internal drive for the enclosure, but they are $289 just for the 2TB drive. There are a couple people here with 2tb drives.

Yea those both look good and from what I can gather either should work with my hr23-700. Do you know if this setup will lag or slow down once it reaches capacity ?

It seems like ALL hard drives lag around 30% left.

Yeah, I have 2 running strong. The MX-1 is probably the highest rated enclosure that I know of.(and it cn be found cheap too)

Since they have fans, they will occasionally go bad, it is also important to keep them clean. A large build-up of dust, due to the moving air will destroy them pretty quickly. BUt that said, I think they are a WAAAAY better solution than the fanless setups, they just seem to get too hot for continuous use. Which of course until recently none of the fanless units were really meant for continuous use.

Unless you find them on sale someplace, that is cheap, they usually go for around $65. I watch for the sales and usually pick them up for about $40 or so.

Do Not, I Repeat Do Not get one that does not have a Fan or any enclosure that is tight fitting and Snug.
It will Bake your Hard drive like a Pizza in an oven. Hard Drives hate heat, they last a very short time when exposed to high temps.

I had a 1.5 TB Seagate in one of those MX enclosers with no fan on it. I ran it on my HR20 and then after about 3 hours I took the HD out to do a check, the HD was so hot that I could not hold it for long in my Hands.
