Hi all,
Dish pvr 508 with 2 301's and dish 500 system. Central Texas, new channel shows up in the guide KWBU 34, pbs station out of Waco. When I click on it, it shows "You must have a second dish to view the channel. Dish network will provide the dish free of charge. Any info on this? Also I noticed a new update must have added tv enhancements in the menu screen and also now when I choose get info in the menu to see my firmware version it shows up in green, Dish 500 ready? Am I just a few months behind or what? Been a customer now since October and it blows cable outta the water; thanks all..

To make a long story short Dish is required to provide the second dish and installation to anyone who requests it for locals because they are breaking a stipulation in SHVIA. All locals from the same market are supposed to be on the same satellite. The second dish, installation and any additional switches or LNB change outs that are needed will be provided for free you just have to call and ask.
Nope your not behind the two things you noticed were just added in the last s/w update which started spooling about 2 weeks ago and should be finishing up soon. :)

Unfortunatly, no not yet :( I wouldn't be able to afford those babies (Excursion) in a million years, I just thought it was time for an avatar change, something other then my favorite bands :) Been doing a lot of Explorer shopping, just haven't found anything decent I can afford, yet.
I have a 4500 and 2700. (legacy) and tried to do what I thought was a switch test, but somehow with some firmware I was given it no longer is a switch test.
I press menu, 6, 1, then 8, then receive the tones for signal strength and press select to begin the switch test. The tones sease like they are supposed to, but no switch test is performed. This means the menus have changed over the years. What is the appropriate steps for a multidish setup to get the thing to perform a switch test? (please be specific)

SHVIA says that customers must not be charged extra to get some of their locals - they have to be offered at one price and that includes extra equipment needed. Does it really say the locals are supposed to come from the same satellite?

I don't think SHVIA says that all locals have to be on the same satellite, because then they'd be in violation in a ton of markets.
Sandy, I had to get a second dish for some of my locals as well. Just call Dish and they'll set up an appointment. I was able to get mine done on a Sunday. I got the dish and a new switch completely free.

There was a very long discussion about this back in Dec 2000 and Jan 2001. Basically the clause dealing with this issue is rather vague. It's clear what it MEANT to say. But it is open to interpretation. The clasue says (I'm paraphrasing this) that all the stations in a market must receive the same treatment as to bandwidth and packaging. Well, some one who is reading that will assume that it means that all the stations have to be on the same satellite. Nope. Several stations have complained to the FCC about this but the FCC has allowed Dish to keep stations on the side satellites on condition that they make it clear to the subscribers that the stations and equipment necessary to receive them are available at no extra cost. Not everyone at the FCC is happy about this ruling, but that is the way it is.
See ya
Tony
