View Full Version : L1.12 for 721 - Now Tuner 1 doesn't work

So the 721 is working fine.  I get the 1.12 download, no issues installing, reboots fine.  Up comes the "Lost Signal transponder X on 119, on Tuner 1".  I switch to tuner 2, everything is fine.  Do a switch check.  All is fine, except Tuner 1 no longer seems to find low # transponders on 119, 110, and 61.5, even though Tuner 2 does.  Swapped my 6000's cable for Tuner 1, check switch, still same problem.  (the 6000 was fine with the 721's tuner 1 cable)

So is it the upgrade or did I just have a hardware failure on tuner 1 that coincided with the installation of the 1.12 update? :mad2:

I had a very similar problem after the L1.11 download. The exception is my problem was with tuner 2. I didn't realize the problem until several days after the download. I went to record one show while watching another and discovered the same issue you are seeing with your tuner 1.

I called DISH tech support. The had go through their "checklist" to verify the problem (i.e. switch cables, check switch, etc.). Finally, the support rep says, "Yep, it's a bad tuner. We'll send you another receiver." Hmmmmm, is it REALLY a bad tuner or some "side effect" of the software "up"grades?

Anyway... got the replacement receiver... installed and authorized it... received the software upgrades and everything seems fine now. I wonder if the upgrades were causing a problem because I have seen the postings on this site regarding pixelization of tuner 2. Maybe the tuner hardware was incompatible with the software upgrades... I don't know... I'm brainstorming on this one.

;)

Anybody else have this issue with the tuners?

Another 1.12 oddity. I arrived home to see that there was a software update waiting last night. I powered down the unit and the next thing I see is the message that the Disk Drive has FAILED! Hmmmm. A replacement wll be here Friday AM......

Just got off the phone with Dish. They are sending a replacement unit. They said it wasn't the software as it is "tested really well" ;) My replacement unit should be here next Mon/Tues...

To everyone getting a new receiver...

MAKE SURE TO RECORD YOUR RECORDINGS TO TAPE! :(

Of course, when the "defunct" receiver is returned so are your recorded programs. Getting a replacement was great (sort of)... transferring the recordings to tape SUCKS! I've been very satisfied with DISH thusfar... BUT... these types of problems had better NOT return regularly or "Hello DTV"!

Hmmm, the 2nd tuner pixelating problem switching to tuner 1 problem instead?

Here's a great excuse to buy a standalone DVD burner. If you are used to the PQ from a DISH PVR tape does indeed suck, even SVHS. I actually use the DVD-RAM mode for stuff that I will be holding short term as that has more options than DVD-R, which is better if you are archiving or recording for other playback machines.

They're under $400 and the PQ is stellar...DVD-RAM blanks are under $6, DVD-R significantly less. This is also a nice thing to have when your HD gets too full ( MY excuse for getting one).

My only complaint is that they don't have PVR-like EPG's, and you actually have to keep track of whats recorded where. Other than that, they're pretty equivalent to PVR's as far as quality and useability.

This is something like what I was going to do myself, just get DVD's that you can record over and over again and keep some if need be, not having to worry so much about hard drive space all the time and problems with tuners pixellating and using it on antenna, cable, or any satellite receiver.
